Great tool when learning Hebrew
My go to book to help in my studies, easy to navigate and having all of the Vocabulary words in Hebrew along with the alphabet is good. Glad I purchased it. A must have for scholars of Hebrew.

The phonetic transliteration in the updated edition is useless
The book is good, if you don't care about the phonetic transliteration of the Hebrew words. For some strange reason that completely escapes my understanding, for the updated edition the editor decided to make the transliteration virtually useless (if not pared with the word written in Hebrew characters), by removing all diacritics from the names of the letters of the alphabet at the beginning of the book, and also by removing the diacritic that would show the difference between letters like ד\דּ and ת\תּ etc (while keeping those to differentiate ג\גּ or פ\פּ... Why?!). This means that every time you see a "d" or a "t" etc., you don't know whether it's "d" or "ḏ"/"t" or "ṯ" etc. In most cases this isn't a problem, since you have the Hebrew characters next to it, but sometimes words appear only in transliteration, as it's the case for יהוה (YHVH), pag. 1, transliterated as "ădō/nài", with a "d" where there should be a "ḏ".I had to send back the updated edition and get myself a copy of the original one. It's a pity, because the printing is obviously better in the updated edition...

Small print
Great resource, but tiny writing. The vowels are very small and words are difficult to see.

Excellent for what it is designed to do
This was just was I was looking for. Vocabulary words are arranged by order of frequency of occurrence and in lists that are of a manageable size. I would compare this book to Metzger's Lexical Aids for Students of New Testament Greek, which I have found very helpful for that language. (I note, however, that Metzger includes much more information than simply word lists.)The advantage of memorizing words by frequency of occurrence should be obvious: It speeds up the ability to read the text with some level of comprehensive. For example, words that occur more than 2000 times will show up several times on nearly every page of the Hebrew Bible, whereas a word that shows up only a few times throughout will rarely be encountered. In addition to the Hebrew word lists there is also a complete list of Aramaic words (these occur mostly in Daniel and Ezra). That said, the Hebrew lists only go as far down as 10 occurences. For words occurring fewer times, you would need to consult a complete lexicon or concordance.
