Solid High-Quality Tool
I love this pruner. I bought it so I could chop up a huge bougainvillea that had grown up over the roof of my back porch and needed to be cut back to almost nothing. Because of the design of the head, it didn't work well at being pushed into the dense foliage of the bush forcing me to buy a second pruner, however, I used it on tall trees that had easily accessed branches and it cuts beautifully. There is very little in the way of plastic parts which is great; this tool should last a long time (with occasional sharpening and oiling). It isn't really lightweight; I had to build up my biceps for a few weeks before I could control the placement of the head well when fully extended. I was an out-of-shape old lady who hadn't done any heavy labor or significant exercise for a couple of years, so anyone who is reasonably strong and healthy should be able to handle this. Great pruner! UPDATE: I just tried out the saw. I saw other reviewers complaining about the wing nut that comes loose, so I wrapped one layer of plumber's pipe sealing tape around the screw. It still came loose a little bit after I worked the blade really hard but the saw worked so well at cutting through a stubborn thick knotty branch that my usual pole saw couldn't handle that I didn't care about a little looseness. I might try another layer of sealing tape or maybe another wing nut from my supply . . . I'll find a way to keep it on there tight, one way or another. The blade is worth a little bit of trouble with a wing nut. Maybe if I attach the wing nut and then cover the exposed end of the screw with a bunch of sealing tape so the wing nut can't move? Later on that - I am the process of overhauling my toilet and I'm worn out. UPDATE July 29, 2023 I worked on that loose wing nut a bit and improved the situation. I added more pipe sealant tape, and I had a rubber washer left over from my toilet fixing which I cut down a bit. I put it on next to the metal and put the provided metal ring/washer on top of that. It helps a LOT. I worked hard sawing branches like the one shown in the photo and the wing nut never loosened more than a quarter turn. I had to tighten it a tiny bit in between major sawing a couple of times but that blade is so good I didn't mind; saved me from having to hire a possibly criminal-minded stranger (you don't want to hear the many stories of my multiple horrible experiences with workers who like to mess up the life of an old woman). Spear and Jackson gave me freedom and independence with this glorious saw plus a really impressive set of new biceps.

Really sharp, easy to use, but too loose.
I'm a 70 year old woman who is as strong as most 50 year old men, but just can't get my pole chainsaw up high enough. So I bought this for the lighter weight and it was great! Took off a very high 4" branch in about a minute and was absolutely stunned at how easy! 2" branches were not so easy, however, because it is hard to keep the lightweight saw in the groove (branch moves too much). A few minutes in, the blade regularly comes loose as the wingnut constantly comes loose regardless of how tightly turned. The blade is also thin, so it tends to bounce regardless...wish they put some kind of sleeve on the pole end to stabilize it. The pruner part is super for very small branches ... 1/2" max maybe. Larger is too much effort so use the blade. I will probably find a piece of thin sheet metal or something to reinforce the base of the blade and a better locking nut, but no regrets. The light weight and great cutting made it worth keeping rather than heavier competition.

Olde English Pole Tree Pruner
I have cut down about 6 tree branches with this Spear and Jackson telescoping pole saw/pruner combination(from Sheffield, UK). The scissor action pruner works very well when the diameter of the branches(you are cutting) does not exceed the width of the cutting blade, otherwise the blade just gets stuck in the wood without cutting through it when you pull the rope/cord. I think this type of blade(like on regular pruners) works better than the other kind that looks like an axe(that is found on similar Fiskars products). I can't even cut the same branch with a hand pruner, it cuts more than 1 inch in diameter. The saw is not the best part of this combination. It arrives detached from the pole, it is attached by screwing a wingnut to a screw(that holds the saw in place) on top of the pruner. The saw moves around as it is only held in place by the screw/nut and a small piece of metal that fits into a hole on the saw. If it is a windy day and it is blowing at 10+mph then forget about using the saw, it just moves around too much(especially on a tree). I have only used the saw twice(first time it was windy and had to finish sawing off the branch on a different day) and I prefer to use this pole just with the pruner. To reach 20 foot high branches you have to use a ladder. The pole extends(by turning a single lever) to about 10 feet but often this is not enough. You use the "hook" to "catch"(hang on to) the branch but when the blade cuts through it the pole most of the time immediately falls to the ground and you have to let go of the rope/cord and grab it with both hands before it hits a hard surface. The pole is smooth on the outside and I use gloves for a better grip.

Impressive Tree Pruner
The telescopic tree pruner is a game-changer! It's incredibly easy to use, with razor-sharp blades that effortlessly snap branches up to one inch thick. The telescopic feature provides excellent reach, making trimming a breeze. Lightweight, durable, and offering optimal control, this pruner is a must-have for any gardener. Five stars all the way!

Shockingly effective
I have never cut a tree before, and had no idea of what to expect. The hook took down tall branches (10+ feet) in seconds. The saw was as shockingly effective. It cut through thick/tall branches on the tree with minimal effort, even when it was extended to its limits.

Razor sharpโฆitโs in the name!
I couldnโt decide what to rate this, but ultimately went with three stars since safety could be a potential problem, but didnโt go less since user error could have factored in. What everyone should know is the blade on this thing is very sharp. Scary sharp. Itโs jagged, andโฆsharp! Itโs so sharp I did not feel safe handling it to attach it to the tool. I also didnโt feel safe using the tool, as the pole, and where the blade attaches is quite flimsy. The blade seemed as if it would break, or fall off at any moment which could end terribly. The blade was so sharp I didnโt feel comfortable storing the tool with the blade still on. I was afraid someone who didnโt know would grasp the wrong part of the tool, or a kid would see it as a pole to retrieve a ball under a car. Iโll try using it again, and see if Iโm missing something important to make this feel more safe, and update here.

Surprisingly valuable
Easy to put together (I haven't tried putting the saw on yet though) and has already saved me countless minutes from having to climb the ladder and risk toppling over trying to reach those pesky out-of-the-way branches. My house is happier without the branches beating on the roof, the plants on my rock wall are happier without branches blocking their sunlight, and I'm happier because it saved me time. The blade is sharp and the mechanism is easy to use - it slices through the branches like butter. Well worth the $$!

Great tool to have
Really impressed by this, especially for the price I haven't had to use the saw that comes with it yet because the pruner is very sharp and has cut through thick branches. Took me few minutes to get used working it but did a great job. Highly recommend. Like the adjustability , can feel a bit heavy after a while but reaches all the tricky areas.

Sharp, long reach, a must
This thing is incredible. Sharp and long reach. I remove the saw when only pruning as it gets stuck between the branches and its quite easy to put back on. It won't cut dry branches well but fresh branches are cut without a glitch. This is my go to when cutting overgrown branches.

Very Good!
As a small, 69yo woman with quite a few trees, I was looking for a means of pruning my trees without needing a ladder. This pruner does the job perfectly for me. I haven't needed to use the pruning saw yet, but the cord-operated cutter is brilliant. It's very sharp and pruning is now something that I can do easily. It takes a bit of practice to avoid tangling the cord up in the branches, but once I got the hang of it, I was fine. I recommend it.
