Brian Wildsmith's ABC

Nice ABC Book, Babies Enjoy It!
BRIAN WILDSMITH'S ABC has been a fun addition to my baby's book collection. The excerpt Amazon offers will give you a good idea of Wildsmith's style. If you like that picture, you will likely enjoy the entire book. While alphabet books are not as immediately appealing as story books, they are supposed to help with early reading. My experience with BRIAN WILDSMITH'S ABC certainly suggests that. I have been reading this both to my 10-month-old son and a 22-month-old friend for a month. Both enjoy it, especially my son.The 22-month-old learned several words for the first time out of reading BRIAN WILDSMITH'S ABC. The vocabulary is a nice mix of familiar and unusual: armadillo, butterfly, cat, dog, elephant, fish, goat, horse, iguana, jaguar, koala, lion, mouse, nest owl, peacock, queen, rooster, snail, turtle, unicorn, violin, weasel, xylophone, yak and zebra. While BRIAN WILDSMITH'S ABC is not one of the first books I reach for, I think it has been a good addition and will help my son learn to read.

Great First ABCs
This is a sweet little first ABC's board book for the under-2 set. I first got this from the library (and later purchased from Amazon) just before my son turned two and wished I'd gotten in months earlier. He instantly loved it - lots of rich colors in the illustrations. Now, we focus on the words that he doesn't run across often and is learning from this book, like 'armadillo', 'jaguar', and 'iguana,' which is his favorite illustration - he asked, 'what dinosaur it is?' He's also fascinated by the picture of the xylophone and its mallet - it's fun explaining that - and 'unicorn' - to a 2 year old!

Not quite as I remembered it
This is a board book in a much smaller format than when it was originally published, and I think some of the illustrations have been changed, e.g., I remember "apple" for A and this has "aardvark." However the illustrations are fine painterly pictures. Good to use with younger children, as there is only one illustration per letter instead of a lot of smaller ones.

Special art.
This was a baby shower gift. It was loved. As a former library worker I was familiar with Brian wordsmith work and always enjoyed it.

Gorgeous illustrations
A rare board book. Wildsmith's illustrations are really special -- just expressive and beautiful. We have given this book as a gift many times, and toddlers always love it. Parents often comment on the beautiful, unusual illustrations.

Original & Vivid
Brian Wildsmith's swirling illustrations bring this animal alphabet to life - though he does have to resort to a violin for V. I've read it with my grand-daughter from when she was under one year old and am still reading it with her at three years old. It doesn't matter that there are only capital letters (a modern alphabet would use lower case letters). The style of the drawing and painting leads to much talk about the animals particularly how different people draw and paint the same thing in so many different ways.
