Great collection of quilt blocks
This is a wonderful collection of quilt blocks. I can't wait to get started. I plan to mix and match the various size blocks for unique quilts. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the directions assume you have bought the recommended ruler. So many rulers have the necessary markings to easily make these blocks but the books doesn't guide you in any direction other than with the recommended ruler. I'm all about specialty rulers until I get it home and realize another ruler I already have can do the job. But I do recommend this book.

Get out your seam ripper!
Made all of the blocks in the classic sampler. Many problems. Calls for two jelly roll strips that are the same. Hard to find this in most jelly rolls. Unless you are using a solid fabric jelly roll, these blocks are so busy they make your head spin. Had to purchase additional fabrics to make the blocks work. Oh, and did I mention that a special ruler needs to be bought to do the blocks...and it is one that you probably don' t have or would never use again. Many of the blocks have 36+ pieces per block, so this becomes a project for quilters with a lot of experience. Many of the same blocks could be made with larger fabric pieces and fewer seams. The author also tells you to join the outer border in a continuous strip...why?.. all that is needed is a single strip for the top and bottom and two joined strips for the sides. Was anyone who could quilt editing this book? This is a book that takes several relatively simple quilt blocks and turns them into major projects, just so it can be called a jelly roll sampler quilt. If you decide to use this book, don't use a jelly roll..pick 5 or 6 complimentary fabrics, with at least one solid and one that reads as solid. Cut them in three inch strips, piece and cut to size. You will save yourself a lot of time and trouble..and unsewing.

Great Patterns
This is the third book by the Lintott's that I have purchased. I am a repeat customer because the instructions are clear , the patterns are creative, the fabrics are inspiring and the photos show not only a beautiful styled pictured, but a clear and close up view of the full quilt, allowing the reader to truly see the quilt. There is nothing more disappointing to spend money on a quilt pattern book and find only a styled shot of the final quilt product. I want to clearly see and see fully the final quilt show I can understand color use and values. Without that a quilter really can not understand whether a quilt fabric will work with the fabrics they intend to use. Bravo for a useful inspiring book.

A Word Of Advice
The Jelly Roll Sampler Quilts is full of beautiful blocks that can be created from 2 1/2" strips, HOWEVER, there is a disadvantage from using a jelly roll or a balipop to create your sampler. When you break out the strip and create the light, medium and dark contrasts, you may have difficulty coming up with the correct mix after you are halfway through the process. Jelly rolls don't necessarily have repeat strips, which you will need when more than 1 is called for in a block. I'm glad I have this book because next time I will just go to the fab shop to get a couple of fabrics to use as a repeat for each block; the finished quilt will be more cohesive. Explanations are clear as are the diagrams.

Extra tips beyond the 10 quilts
This book is beautifully done. Block sizes run from 8 inches to 16 inches for 55 different blocks. Because all of the quilts use only a jelly roll to make the blocks, you end up cutting a lot of little pieces. The authors show two different colorways for the five main quilts so you'll have lots of ideas. My favorite feature is the "Patchwork Ideas" inset that appears on the instruction page for some of the blocks. This gives suggestions for interesting secondary patterns that are created when you repeat this block or combine it with one other block to make an entire quilt. So you really get more than 10 quilts out of this book. I highly recommend it.

This book contains dozens of beautiful blocks made with jelly roll strips
This book contains dozens of beautiful blocks made with jelly roll strips. There are enough patterns in this book to make many beautiful quilts. The book show a special ruler but they can be cut using regular quilt rulers. There are lots of pictures and very clear directions. I have made one sampler quilt with many others ready to be sewn. If you love jelly roll strips this book is for you.

Some brilliant ideas, but visually a little disappointing
I have always loved all of Pam and Nicky's jelly roll books - have bought them avidly and made a number of quilts based on them. The combination of brilliant designs, exceptionally clear instructions, and beautiful images has been a winner. Sadly, though, I was a little disappointed by this, their most recent book. One of the things I have always loved in previous books, was the chance to see the same design made up in different fabrics: this inspires me to see how I can make the design my own.In this book, the designs are still brilliant and inspiring, and the instructions look just as good as ever (no, I haven't tried one yet, although I'm certainly going to!). However, I felt that visually this was not so well presented as the other books have been. Too many of the quilts were only shown draped or folded, rather than clearly visible to give one a good idea of the whole. The final five quilts - some of the most interesting in design terms - are ONLY shown in one colour way, not made up in a second one. There are also a large number of photos - indeed the whole of the inside front cover - which just consist of a close up of a small area of patchwork with quilting details. This actually tells us very little: we know their quilts are beautifully long arm quilted at The Quilt Room - we don't need to be shown it. What we want to see is the overall effect of an entire quilt.I suspect that this was probably a publisher's / editorial decision, and it was a wrong one. Their designs are fantastic: let us see them clearly in their next quilt book (which will hopefully not be too long away!!).

Jelly Roll plus
The Jelly Roll Sampler Quilts book is a typical Lintott how to book. Excellent pictures, clear instructions and drawings of the quilt blocks. One down side I have discovered with this book is the implication you can make a quilt from a jelly roll. Every quilt requires more fabric (apart from the backing material)to complete the quilt. There are some great samplers that can be used to create an entire quilt in the one design or used along with others to make blocks of different designs. The quilts are made up in a range of colours so you can see how it looks in dark or light, plain or highly patterned fabrics. It contains over 50 blocks you can pick and mix for your own quilts. Certainly a good addition to a quilters library for either the beginner or more experienced quilter.

Jelly roll samper quilts
As usual the authors have produced some lovely quilts that make you want to get started on at least half straight away. I love the clear instructions, I live in the middle of France in a farming community and have nobody I can turn to for help if I don't understand what to do next, so clear instructions are vital for me, and these lovely ladies always come up trumps. If you like jelly rolls, you will want this book.

A bit fiddly.
Obviously a more traditional approach and colour schemes than their "heirloom quilts" book which I previously bought. Not a lot of chain piecing either which makes the process quite fiddly. However I do like the "mix and match" idea of making any of the 8, 12 or 16 inch blocks work together as long as you have the right number of jellyroll strips. Maybe I'm just not confident enough to strike out and risk wasting expensive material or making a quilt that just looks messy. So far I have only used the "carpenter's wheel" block to make a christmas wreath panel for the front door and that IS lovely. So only 4 stars I'm afraid.

Very satisfying
I love sampler quilts and sampler quilt books. They are an underappreciated genre in my opinion. They are perfect for the teacher and student alike and no home is complete without a sampler quilt. This is a modern approach to making sampler quilts and I found it refreshing as well as enjoyable. A much needed and wanted addition to my quilt library.
