Excellent Germination - Large Enough Quantity to convert a small lawn/pasture to wildflower meadow
I was unsure that these would germinate without proper stratification but I had great luck sowing in the spring.I used glyphosate herbicide to kill a side lawn I was tired of mowing and wanted to make more useful for birds and wildlife. I then used a rock rake to scratch the top 1/2 inch of soil. I threw 5-6 big handfulls of these seeds over the area (which barely made a dent in the big bag of seeds) and then scattered a couple bags of cheap topsoil over the area to just barely cover the seeds (maybe 1/4 inch). Watered them with sprinkler for about 15 minutes each day it didn't rain and within 2 or maybe 3 weeks I had hundreds and hundreds of plants. They typically don't bloom the 1st year when grown from seed but with a little fertilizer, a few will.Watching the American Gold Finches devour the ripe seeds after the blooms fade is as much fun or more than enjoying the pinkish-purple flowers all summer.P.S. I'd recommend sowing some Asclepias tuberosa along with these if making a meadow - the orange compliments these Echinacea quite nicely.

They will germinate if sown properly
It took me years to learn that purple coneflowers seed won't germinate unless they can receive light. That means the seed can't be covered. Loose, finely textured ground, spaded or tilled about 5 in. deep, with the seed sparsely spread (4 or 5 in.apart), then kept watered regularly with a sprinkler should result in a good germination rate. I am very pleased with my little seedlings.

They aren't purple.
They aren't purple. They are beautiful but all that sprouted and bloomed are yellow. I guess they are yellow echinacea? I know them by their common name of black eyed Susans. Hum.

Mysterious disappearing seeds
I followed the instructions and planted a whole pound of seeds in June in a sunny spot where I have brown-eyed susans growing. Disappointingly, NOT EVEN ONE SPROUTED. Not one! I have 15 acres of garden; I know how to plant things. I sure was surprised by a field of nothing this time.

Never sprouted despite my usually green thumb
I bought about 10 different types of seeds from different sources (all through Amazon) and these are the only ones that didn’t sprout at all. Very disappointing. I don’t know if the seeds were old or what. I’ve never had this problem with seeds in the past, unless they were over 5 years old. I’ll update this review if they sprout, but it’s been 2 weeks now.

Nothing
Zero grew...I’ve ordered from outside pride in the past...same result. Look elsewhere

Don't bother
I think I wasted my money. I don't see anything coming up that might be a cone flower. Guess next spring I'll try something else again
