Product Description Ray Liotta stars as Manny, a recently widowed man with a bubbly daughter in Los Angeles in the late 1950s. To help with the domestic side of his life, he employs vivacious housekeeper Corrina (Whoopi Goldberg), and soon finds himself drawn into a relationship with her. This brings about the wholesale disapproval of his racist neighbours, friends and family. .co.uk Review In Corrina, Corrina Ray Liotta plays a 1950s jingle composer whose wife dies, leaving him to raise their grieving young daughter (Tina Majorino) alone. Dad hires an African-American housekeeper (Whoopi Goldberg), who helps fill the gap in the child's life--and then Dad's life. Soon an interracial relationship crossing the social mores of the era is underway. Written and directed by Jessie Nelson (The Story of Us), the film is a spot-on recreation of 1950s suburbia without gratuitous kitsch. Liotta is perfect as a working man of the day, given to white shirts and narrow ties; Goldberg gives one of her finest performances as the level-headed Corrina; and little Majorino is heartbreakingly effective. But the film entirely bears the stamp of one person, and that's Nelson, who has a wonderfully witty eye and a sophisticated but sensitive approach to the crosscurrents of emotion at play in this story. --Tom Keogh, .com

A fantastic film for all the family
This is one of my absolute favourite films, it is a mixture of happiness, sadness and humour, Molly's character is intriguing as we don't often get to see the aftermath of grief from a childs perspective, and Whoopi Goldberg's character is a balance of a caring and good humoured nature which helps molly get through her loss, and opens up her personality to create a brighter and happier future for her. All throughout the film Goldberg's character doesn't replace Molly's mum but just helps Molly's heart start to heal and remember her mum in happiness.

Another Great Offering From Whoopi Goldberg!
I purchased this DVD from music magpie, I had never seen this vintage movie of Whoopi Goldberg's before! But being a real big fan of Whoopi Ithought it would be just as good and entertaining as all her other movies! I was right it was a very good movie, really enjoyed it. Ms Goldberg wasat her usual excellent acting best, glad I brought it.

Same old, same old, (quite good) same old
Do you enjoy films that are best watched at somebody else's house, with your brain safely ensconced in a bell jar at home? Do you still secretly yearn for the old days, when predictable movies (like this one) were shared around fairly between 'at a lose end' erstwhile A listers? Do you harbour a resentment for the fact that clichéd romance comedies suddenly became 'Rom-Coms', with the copyright for formulaic claptrap wholly owned by Jennifer Aniston? Then watch this movie - a film exploring the possibilities of mind-numbing cliché made in an era before Jim Carrey turned the theory into dreary. It's true, I'm no Liar Liar.

brilliant
i love this film, already had it on video but i have been waiting to see it on DVD, so was chuffed when i did. It's funny, sweet and very well acted, whoopie Goldberg is a nanny and very good at it she brings out the best in the other cast, well worth watching, It's good to see a film that joins different cultures well, and lets people see that whatever race we are we are all the same.
