Good, But Worth It?
We wanted a shave ice machine for making snow cone the lil ones, but also good enough to make bingsu for the grownups. After watching Esther Choy of Eatery, we ended up choosing the Doshisha. It has a cool look, and a price tag that seems to command quality. Did it deliver? For the most part. The blade is adjustable, and at the lowest setting, the Doshisha is capable of making snow-like ice. But this also involves having a perfectly smooth ice. You have to let it melt just a tiny bit before starting the Machine, otherwise, the blade won't catch the ice and it will just whirl around in place. Now here are a few things that makes it less than 5 stars. Firstly, looking at the pictures, the Doshisha looks like it was made out of metal or similar tough material, just like the original ice machine you'd find in Asia. Nope, it's made out of plastic. With the amount of torque, tension that's going on, I hope this $99 investment will pay itself off before it breaks. Just when I opened the top for the first time, a small plastic bit fell out. I couldn't find where it was from. So I don't think I had damaged anything, and perhaps it was just "breaking the seal" type of plastic. Secondly, you get 2 ice bowls. The machine won’t take scoops of ice cubes, so we may have to find creative ways of stocking these ice cylinders before a bingsu party. Thirdly, it's running at 100V. It is a Japanese appliance after all. So you need to spend an extra $30 or so for a good (big and heavy) step down transformer. At this point you are looking at a $150 investment between the Doshisha, the step down and a kit of Hawaiian snow cone kit.Overall, we love the Doshisha and it makes yummy snow cone and Bingsu. But it'll take quite a few servings before this investment pay off itself and hopefully the machine will last to that day.

Great ice shaver
Great ice shaver. It’s really an ice shaver not an ice crusher. Tastes like Hawaii.

Materials need improvement
It looks like metal in pics, but it's the sort of plastic that is used in making Barbie houses. Doesn't seem sturdy for $100. I didn't use it, so I cant speak to that, but I will note the amount of shaved ice you can make isnt much unless you prep multiple ice blocks, but to do this would require the extra purchase of plastic ice molds specific to this machine. Online, this is a "handsome" machine that I just hoped would be a much higher quality item.

Texture not too fine!
I thought the consistency would be fine like snow - but was a bit disappointed. And I thought it was made of metal and not plastic.

Not what I expected...
I didn't like that you had to use the molds for the snow cones. I wanted to make multiple at once, but it didn't work out because there was only two molds (Which makes two small snow cones). Otherwise, ice is very soft, and fluffy. You had to adjust the blade based on how you wanted your ice shaved. It could be a safety hazard for younger kids. Body did not seem sturdy as-well. It violently shook while making the snow, and the body of the maker was plastic, I was afraid it would break.

First, In the box, its japanese no english at all
What i like is a snowy ice shaved (Oh yeah~~~)But i dislike the1) steady stand they're looks good but its shakes when you pull down the wheel2)they give you only 2 molds to make the bingsu just freeze the mixture over 24 hours and shaved itBut the texture i got is omg how good it is? Huh! Pls if you want to eat bingsu all day, buy this machine
