A good introduction to Georgian jewellery
This is a good introduction to and overview of Georgian jewellery. The book illustrates mostly English jewellery though it also dips into French and German pieces. Most of the items shown are from the mid and late Georgian period. The majority of items illustrated were for women but it also includes a few examples of male jewellery. The book features colour photography throughout with plenty of full and half page pictures as well as many smaller pictures. The text is knowledgeable but not academic so the book suits general readers looking for a book to browse through. I liked that the book covers the sort of jewellery that middling folk might have possessed as well as royal and elite pieces.

Outstanding Photography
The best aspect of this book is the outstanding photography. It would have been nice if there had been more pictures of the backs of the jewellery, as this helps to identify Georgian jewellery. It covers paste as well as gemstones and has a useful section on fakes - beware of skulls and eye brooches! On the whole, an essential work for the collector or dealer.

Great mix of images and text, enjoyable and informative
I really enjoyed this book - it's more of an intro to the major styles of the Georgian period. I did want something that also covered how jewelry was made, cutting techniques etc - this book didn't cover these and might have been even better for it. It's engagingly written and has good stories and insights. Well worth a flick through as the pictures are gorgeous and well described.

Excellent book
There is no other book that I have come across that covers Georgian jewellery in the same way. Good but could do with more portraits, so you can see how the jewellery was worn - only small criticism.
