Q: How much does the screen weigh?

If I had to guess I would say around 40 to 45 lbs.

Q: would it be possible to add something (perhaps faux glass) to the open weave area? I'm looking for ways to make the top portion even more private.

Don’t waste your money to alter this already overpriced product, it should not be called a privacy screen as the top lattice area is goes way too low and it blows over super easy and it damages anything in its path. Terrible customer service when item was tried to return!! Stay away!!!!!

Q: can this be set up in an l shape; 2 panels each?

There are 4 total panels, each connected by hinges to the next, and the unit opens and closes like an accordion. You could possibly do an “L” shape, but the stability would be compromised as you would have 2 panels in a straight line on both sides of the “L“ with hinges between each pair and at the 90 degree angle corner. A strong gust of wind on either side of the “L” Would likely cause the panels to move and possibly, the whole screen to fall. A solution might be to stabilize the hinged connections on both sides, for example, putting large plant containers on both sides of the panels where the hinges connect them. But to leave them free-standing in an L-shape is asking for trouble, in my opinion. Mine has even fallen over in strong winds several times using it as pictured. And it is heavy and awkward to right when this happens.

Q: can it be stain a different color?

Yes it can be stained a different color if you wish. We would suggest to use an outdoor grade acrylic based stain.
