Awesome sound! Great value on quality headphones
I'll start by saying this was the first time I spent more than $15-20 on headphones/earbuds. I wanted to upgrade to a better sound, and these really did the trick. I paid $64.95. The first track I listened to was Yo-Yo Ma's "Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major." I wouldn't say it felt like I was in the concert hall; it felt more like that concert hall was inside my head! Amazing! Highs, lows, mid-range - all came through crystal clear. I proceeded to listen to rock, pop, jazz, hip-hop, and some more classical. Everything was reproduced beautifully in the headphones. I never noticed before how big a difference there is between listening to something at 192kbps vs. 320kbps. As for the look and feel, I have no complaints so far. They feel very comfortable on my head (and my head is by no means smaller than average), even after wearing them for more than an hour straight. I got them 2 days ago. I have started to notice very minimal creaking sounds as described in other reviews, but it's not noticeable enough to detract from the listening enjoyment. And that's what these MDR-V55s provide - enjoyment. I'm not a DJ so I can't speak to how well they'd work for swiveling on earpiece away while you're spinning, but I'd recommend these headphones to anyone looking for great sound at an affordable price point. I don't want to experience music through regular speakers anymore; I want everything to arrive at my ears via these headphones.

Read the details though...
First, I have a small head. Second, I'm very picky with sound quality, I favor loud music (to most meaning loudest setting and for me still not enough), and thumping bass! I want it to sound as close to a after market audio system in a car to bump hip hop and electronic beats most. Now I listen to classical and different music (softer) as well, I'm not a sound engineer or even a musician type...I just jam the f out really loud and I can't get the emotional or physical reaction from music unless I can experience it that way. So far, these are the only ones I've found/tried (in store or purchased) that speak to my needs. Comfort wise I could remove a few stars, and I wish they were more comfortable, but since I need sound more over comfort you see why I had to give them five stars. Price point is great! Wire is great it doesn't tangle, they store easily too, but no mic or wireless capability. Obviously that would be a stretch as would noise isolation or cancellation since, none I ever tried are loud enough for me. I also like hanging them on my neck while conversations and still being able to jam in the meantime, before I can finally cover my ears again lol ive had mine since 2011 or 2012, they finally broke because of my own stupidity (a serious retard moment), but if you take care they last very long, I treat mine like designer sunglasses or prized jewels. Now I need new ones, I'm so relieved they have these in stock. I can't even describe my fear of the search again. Using loud headphones since 1993/4 constantly, don't even bother with the "going deaf" crap, I'm well aware, and hear quite well. ❤️

Nice consumer headphones, but NOT for DJs or Professionals
It was interesting to discover that these cans are actually the follow up to the now discontinued Sony MDR-V700DJ headphones, because in terms of specs they were the better headphones. They were bigger cans, had a cord that stretched allowing movement when you're either in a studio or performing and need to reach something, it also came with a little carrying pouch and a 1/4th adapter. These MDR-V55 cans come with absolutely NONE of that; the best thing I can say about these is that they have an aesthetic that competes with the "Beats By Dre" headphones and are much better than the "Beats" headphones from a price standpoint. Though I must recommend that you buy these headphones for as deep of a discount as you can, because I do not believe that they are worth $99.99, and considering I spent roughly $80 for my pair, I'd say that even that might be a little too expensive. $50 to $60 would be a sweet spot for these cans in my opinion, but like I said, just look for as deep of a discount as possible if you ever come across them. Another important thing I should mention is that I can be added to the several other reviewers that pointed out the creaking sound. It's a nuisance and an annoyance, but something I find myself getting over after a while.*** It sounds like I'm negative here, but I'm a harsh critic because I'm a long time fan of Sony headphones. My first pair of "real" cans were the MDR-V150s back in 2003 for a freshman audio production class, then purchased a pair of MDR-Z300s while living in Japan in 2006, then moved on to the MDR-V700DJ cans in 2007. The biggest problem with Sony headphones have always been build quality, meaning that every pair of headphones that I've owned so far had to have tape put on them to keep them together. In the case of my last pair, the V700DJ, I had to tape up the cord because after a few years the things were falling a part. Well it looks like Sony has addressed the issue of quality, and I would be surprised if I ever have to tape up these MDR-V55 cans, but the reason for me being a Sony fan is the sound quality - and the quality is generally superb. Again, it is a slight step down from my previous model, but if you're just casually listening to music, I think these would be a great purchase and excellent alternative to the current flavor of the month brand(s). So in summary, the sound quality is what you'd expect from Sony - which is excellent in my opinion. If you need to move around a studio, desk, or on a stage - you might want to buy yourself a cord extender and maybe even a 1/4th adapter if you have any equipment that would need it. The regular retail price of $99.99 doesn't inspire me, so if you can find these NEW for under $80, you'd be making a very wise purchase that's both money conscious and quality conscious. ***EDIT AS OF March 22, 2013 - I'm debating whether I should keep this at four stars or knock it down to three. When it comes to sound quality, Sony is still one of my go to companies; but as far as build quality is concerned I can no longer deal with the creaking these cans create. It's not noticeable when the volume is turned all the way up, but with the volume down these things show their lack of quality. There are several reports all over the internet of this creaking issue across several different models of Sony headsets. Whether you are a professional or just a casual listener, the only Sony headphones I'd be confident in recommending - still on the market - are the MDR-V7506 (and it's older brother, the V6). I can't say a bad word about those headphones. Right now I'm trying out the Pioneer HDJ-500, and they already impress me. It comes with both a coiled cable and a straight cable, as well as a 1/4th adapter. These Pioneer cans strike me as a better follow up to the Sony MDR-V700DJ cans, as these are great for actual DJing, as well as casual listening to genres such as house, dance, hip-hop, and mainstream pop. I'll head over to that product and give those a review, but after less than a year, I think I'm going to bench these MDR-V55 headsets. It's crazy that I paid $80 for this, and even looking at the price now with months of experience with the product, I can't say that $60 new is worth the price. As I said at the end of my first paragraph, just look for as deep of a discount as possible if you have your heart set on these. EDIT As of 3/24/2015 - It's come to my attention that anything from WD40 to even Cooking Oil (seriously, THAT WORKED) eliminates the creaking sound on models such as the one I own. I don't know how much of an issue this still is because many of the reviews that have come after mine don't report on the creaking issue that I've experienced with these cans. So I'm guessing Sony has updated these at some point and addressed the issue. Either way, if you run into the problem on these, spray some oil on the outside of the cans - basically everywhere you hear the creaking. Let it sit for a while then dry it off with a cloth, and that should solve an issue Sony should have never allowed to happen in the first place.

PROBABLY THE BEST / MOST WORTHWHILE $67 INVESTMENT I HAVE EVER MADE
I ordered this pair of headphones on August 1st, 2013. Today is December 8th, 2016 and I still use these headphones almost every day. Back when I ordered this, the price point was very impressive, around $67. Seems like the price has not changed much, which is great. More importantly, I was blown away by the quality of the bass coming through these headphones. It is neither too blown out nor too weak. The highs and lows on this are impressively clear, and the comfort is a 10/10. Aesthetically, the pair is very visually appealing as well. Simple design, but sleek What impressed me most about these headphones, by FAR is the build quality. I have literally abused these headphones in the past 3 and a half years. Everything from sitting on it, stepping on it, ripping it out of by computer jack by abruptly standing up (too many damn times), dropping it on hard surfaces by accident, and overall being a terrible and shameful owner of these headphones. The build has BARELY worn down. The only degradation I have noticed is a slight flaking of the material around the right earcuff. This does not even hinder the comfort or quality of the headphones, and is clearly from the years of abuse I have put it through. Absolutely amazing pair of headphones, highly recommend to anyone. Team these with PowerAmp for Android and I'm in Note 2 heaven...
Reading a review of these headsets, I ran across one that mentioned downloading PowerAmp as a music player and using these. I did just that. I let them burn in for a day and started wearing them around. I thought I would need a eternal amp since these are 40mm drivers. They do kill with an amp, but, are plenty loud without one. I have the Galaxy Note II, which I love, and with PowerAmp as a music player, I adjusted the EQ to my needs. The end result??? AudioTechnica ATH-50 BUTTERY smooth sound. The ATH's are the only headsets that I have which give me that same liquid beautiful sound, like music is literally being poured over your eardrums- that's the best way I can describe it. These handle everything from classical and jazz to hip hop and reggae. The bass doesn't thump unless you want it to, but, will definitely let you know it's there at all times. I love the size, although I wear glasses and having these on for a long time does pinch my ears. The cups are pretty flat and not too big, so they look really good when walking around town. They fold flat enough, the no-tangle cord is great, and they're stylish. Best of all is the sound, without question. The only problem is leakage- its not terrible, but, I can't wear these in my library at school. Pretty much anywhere else- they're good. Passive noise cancelling, meaning they just drown everything else out when the music is loud enough. My gf says they look like an expensive pair of headphones, which is not a selling point in my opinion, but, a nice ancillary benefit. I can't find the review that suggested PowerAmp and these headphones, but, man- I can't thank you enough. I'm finally, finally happy.

Great for sound performance but lacking in comfort.
I did not wants Beats by Dre when going into my headphone purchase. I was looking for a few things (bass without losing it's balance, stylish look while on the head, comfort) and I can say that these headphones were ok but...not great. Pros -Stylish. Simply put they are some of the best looking headphones on the market. It seems like Sony did a great job with the tiny accents on these headphones down to the red wire. I personally like the look of these better than Beats. -These aren't Beats by Dre. I don't have a personal vendetta again those headphones, I just think they are overpriced. -The price point for the sound you're getting is great, very reasonable. You tend to use headphones that didn't cost you a fortune a lot more than the ones that cost so much you are afraid to break. -They felt very durable and like my last point said, I wasn't afraid to walk around wearing these things all the time -The sound is very good, a bit more bass than monitor headphones without washing everything out. I listen to hip-hop so I wanted the crisp beats but I listen to other genres too and found myself able to listen to a variety of music without problem. -The length of the cord is the right length for walking around. I had a pair of Sony headphones years ago with a 6 foot cord and found myself having to wrap that around my body several times because it was dragging on the ground otherwise. Cons -Comfort...I can't express this enough. Just be aware that they are not great for long sessions of listening, especially if you move them around on your head at all. If you keep them in the same position the entire time they might serve your purposes but I personally couldn't stand them for more than 20 minutes. I tried other people in my household and they liked the sound but gave them back to me at some point saying they didn't feel all that great. It was for this reason that I returned them. It doesn't matter how much I liked them otherwise...something was off about these for me. Hope this helps!

Some of the best cheap Headphones around
Some of the best cheap Headphones around. I tested several brands before deciding on these. In my opinion they sound much better than the BEATS at about 80% less in price. The bass is much better than the BEATS and they sound great. As an ex-dj who still do some gigs once in a while I was looking for something good but didn't want to pay $300.00 for a pair of headphones. These were the perfect choice. The color combination of black and red, plus the red flat tangle free cable looks really nice and makes them a very attractive set of cans. I've gotten quite a few compliments on how they look. There's no distortion and everything sounds clear. Buy them, you won't be sorry. I like the first pair so much that I ended up buying 3 more pairs, one for my iPod & iPhone, one for my daughter, one for broadcasting music from my PC and one for watching TV without disturbing my wife. They're worth every penny.

Hard to beat
I bought these a few weeks ago as a replacement for my Sony MDR-V300's that I've been using for the past 5 years or so. They were good, but the all plastic construction was showing its weakness. I was impressed by the reviews for this model, and at the time was on sale for less than the MDRXB400 that I was also considering. DESIGN: Upon receiving them, I was pleased with the build quality and happy to see the whole head band was metal. They have a nice design look, without being too flashy like all the Beats wanna-bes. The flat cord is a nice touch and I like that theres not a wire coming from each ear piece. It won't tangle and is of average length. A little longer would be nice, but it's long enough for most uses that I can think of. The ear cups can rotate 90deg to lay flat, and can also rotate up into the headband. SOUND: I am an average user that likes Top 40, Classic Rock and Techno. I am by no means an audiophile. With that said, I am quite happy with the sound of these headphones. I don't have a Beats or any other $300 headphone to compare side by side with these, but from what I've heard when listening to the demos in store, these are easily in the same category. Bass is full and strong, but not overpowering. Voices and high notes are clear and distinct. I have turned up the volume to 65% and heard no distortion. Sony has been in the audio market FOR AGES, it only makes sense that their equipment will sound AT LEAST as good as or better than whoever in Japan decided to make Beats a year ago. You'll find MANY others that agree that Sony knows their stuff and makes quality equipment. COMFORT: I mainly use these at work, and often for several hours at a time. Comfort is important. Compared to my previous V300's, these are somewhat heavier but I attribute that to the better construction. The earcup cushion is soft and comfortable on the ear. The rubber on top of the headband is somewhat thick and feels nice, but I wish it had more cushion as it sometimes feels like its digging into my head. As some noted, these do fit tight. I wish the earphones would be able to swing out a few more degrees to release some tension. I find myself adjusting their angle on my head or fit on my ear often. I can loosen the fit a little by clicking the strap adjustment out, but then they slip off the top of my head when I loop up. My ears hurt a bit when taking them off if I've worn them over an hour, but not too bad. FINALLY: The sound you get from these is WELL WORTH the price, compared to Beats and other "trendy" headphones that cost 3x more than any normal sane person that isnt in the music business should spend on headphones. I docked a star because of its tight-fitting design. The cups only swing out so far and this causes an unnecessarily tight fit that can be uncomfortable after some time on your head. However, for the price, I would highly recommend trying these before even considering something in the price-range of Beats.

Buy it before it goes out of stock
I already had these headphones but they got damaged so i was looking for new ones. And trust me no beats or bose or skullcandy headphonesl no matter what the price can beat the sound quality of these headphones. I bought from the seller called " Shop the World " they did a great job at giving this product with no defects and no damage. I think il order another one
