Cleans the brass shells pretty good doesn't take long

Works great brass looks like new. Ive never been able to get brass looking like this in a vibratory cleaner. I’ve had no issues. I’m assuming those complaining about leaks and motor overheating must be overloading it. None ofThose issues here. I weighed everything to ensure I stayed below 17lbs as the manual states.

I heard about SS pin wet tumblers and didn't really believe the hype. I do now.Unpacked my tumbler this afternoon, it was well packed and appears to be a well made product. I took 400 rounds of 40S&W brass that was tumbled in walnut shell media and tossed it in the tube. I added the pins, a teaspoon of Dawn dish soap, and a dash of dishwasher drying agent, and set it to run for an hour..My previously tumbled brass looked like brand new! I had no idea it would make this much difference. I tossed it in a pillow case and let it run in the dryer for an hour with a load of laundry...clunky sounding but it will get all the remaining moisture out. The down side is now I have a few thousand rounds to RE-tumble in the new machine.Yes, recovering the SS pins is pain in the butt but suck it up buttercup it's worth it! Think of the extended life on your reloader dies without all the fine grit and grime that won't be getting in there.

This unit plus lemishine makes your brass come out looking brand new. Even with tarnished brass that sat in the field for months. There is a spray that removes oxide then toss in the tumbler with lemishine, bam perfect brass. It gets kinda warm but no problems with it.

I bought this based on Hornady's reputation for well-engineered products (I have and love their ammo plant).Unfortunately, on the device that I received, there was no way to actually seal the enclosure. No matter how clean, dry and tight I would get the lid and rubber seal, it would begin leaking after 10-15 minutes.Once it starts leaking, the wheels begin to slip and the tumpler no longer rotates.The motor also gets extremely hot after running it for 20-30 minutes. I'm deeply concerned that if I had left it unattended for an hour or two, it could have been hazardous.For the record, I was nowhere near the maximum weight for the thing.I wound up returning it and buying the Frankford Arsenal tumbler, which is less expensive, has better features (dual openings with media screens), doesn't get dangerously hot, and doesn't leak at all.

As the title suggests, it does a fantastic job when it works.First, the good. There's nothing quite like wet tumbled brass. It does a much better job of doing a thorough clean of the inside of the case, and the primer pockets. When this tumbler works, it accomplishes just that. Unlike some others, i never ran into any issues with leaks. The drum itself is pretty solid and has a nice rubberized inner coating. The biggest issue is the base unit. Sadly, it just doesn't work well.Like others have said, heat output tends to be a problem. Far from the worst problem, but still noteworthy. The biggest issue with the base is the design of the rollers that the drum rides on. Of the two base rods, only one is connected to the motor. The other just rolls freely on the end bearings. This is only partly to blame for the issues with the unit though. It's the design of the drive rod that is the biggest weakness of the system. The rod itself has two end caps that keep the wash drum from migrating to the edges and rubbing on the motor housing. The rod withing those end caps is coated with a harder rubber. The intent of this is to provide a surface to "grab" the roughened surface of the drum as the rod spins. The problem is the rubber is way too hard to grip the roughened plastic surface of the drum. So if the drum is overloaded, the rod and rubber sleeve will just spin and rub against the drum, but won't actually spin the drum. After the rod spins against the drum for a good 15-30 min, the heat from the friction may soften the rubber enough that it'll finally grip the side of the drum and start the tumbling process, but it often doesn't. Hornady suggests not to exceed 15lbs between the brass, water, cleaning agents, and tumbling media. For reference, I just tried a batch where the total weight of the loaded drum was 10lbs, and it was still unable to move it. So it can't even handle less than what hornady recommended as the maximum capacity. I think the design is just poor. If Hornady used a softer rubber, or maybe some kind of geared mating surface, the unit would function as intended. I might try wrapping some softer rubber bands around those mating surfaces to see if that'll help. One other thing to point out is that the rod from the motor unit has a diameter of about .5-.75 inches. This doesn't seem like enough to impart the torque needed to spin the drum, and is likely the reason the motor gets so hot, having to work that much harder to spin the drum. I think Hornady needs to take a serious look at their design and make some improvements.I've since acquired one of Frankford Arsenal's 7L Platinum tumblers and I am much happier with their product. Their tumbler is driven by much larger wheels and they have a maximum recommended capacity of 30lbs. As soon as you start the motor, the drum spins.Just be aware of what you're buying. I don't know if Hornady has made any changes since I purchased my unit in 2023, but hopefully they have. If you're only looking to tumbler very small quantities of brass at a time, the hornady unit may be able to manage. But if you're looking to tumble quantities closer to Hornady's claims for the unit, you might be better of looking at other options.

Have processed maybe 10-15 loads so far and all is going well. I follow advise and do not overload. I weigh all components and make sure each total load never exceeds 17 lbs. I have never had the motor over heat or turn itself off.I also have never had the tumbler leak, as one reviewer mentions.With a full load of 5 lbs of 30-06 brass, 5 lbs of steel media, and enough water to cover the combination, I let it run for about 2 hours and the brass turns out clean and bright.I use Dawn dishwashing soap and just a little dish drying agent.Much, much better results than using dry media and a vibrating cleaner. Primer pockets and interior of cases come out very clean.

This is a great tool for wet tumble cleaning of brass , I've read about over heating problems, I've only used it once and made sure not to overload it and ran it for 2 hrs with 400 40 cal. cases and had no problems at all, the casings came out like brand new inside and outI love it so far
