Pearl Rapid Lock Hi-Hat Clutch (HCL205QR)

I was having some issues with my Ludwig stock hi hat clutch slipping. This clutch definitely solved that problem. The way it attaches to the stand is so much more secure since it wraps itself around rod rather than pressing in from one screw point. The quick release works great and the tightness adjustment for the symbol is very precise. This is an excellent little piece of hardware.

If you're at all like me-- constantly dropping cymbal felts and wingnuts into the blackhole abyss of the floor under your drumset, the Pearl HCL205QR Rapid Lock Hi-Hat clutch is your new best friend!I often (especially when striking in a hurry to get home) loosen the standard threaded fastener version (on the bottom of my old clutch) too fast and carelessly and when the the nut finally comes loose, it flies somewhere, who knows where--under something, behind, something, on top of something-- and the felt flies off in a completely different direction. So much for getting home in a hurry.. Enter the Pearl Rapid-Lock Super-Grip Hi-Hat Clutch: The easy snap-together and pinch-release locking mechanism means you will never drop felts and clutch pieces all over the stage, studio, or practice room again.Another great feature of this clutch design is the allen screw locking hi-hat tensioner--the red part. On a traditional hi-hat clutch (of the past 20 or so years), you'd have two opposing threaded fasteners. You would find the desired tension for your top hi-hat cymbal by adjusting the lower of the two nuts and then with all your might tighten the top nut into the lower nut to lock them in place. Inevitably one of two things would happen: either the two nuts would loosen apart or when you want to adjust your hi-hat, no amount to tensile strength can pull the two pieces apart. With this new design, you simply loosen the allen screw, make your adjustment, snug it up again, and get back to playing. I can't believe it took this long to come up with this obvious design fix, but I'm glad it's here.Now, a new hi-hat stand can easily cost upwards of $300, so I found it hard to justify the additional $25 ($35 for the drop-clutch version) to replace the brand-new already functioning clutch that comes with the hi-hat stand. But since I plan to use this guy for another ten years or more, which is how long I had the last one, I figured that averages $2.50 per year. And I can handle that.

I love the quick release adjustment making for quicker hi hat changes. I also favor the locking mechanism that it has so there is no slippage concerning how tight or loose you have the top cymbal. That's a plus. I don't believe this one is going to slip loose on me as I play. My old clutch would slip almost immediately upon depressing the foot pedal. I believe this is a needed upgrade on my kit and will give me many good years of service with little to no adjustments.

I really wanted to order Gilbatars brand quick release high hat clutch but I got tired of waiting as it has been back ordered so long by all the vendors so I went with Pearl brand. This product works Fantastically, super easy to install/adust/remove and I need to break down my hi-hat every practice. Saves a little time, it all adds up. I highly recommend!!

I got this to replace my old clutch that was constantly coming unscrewed, allowing the top hat to swing far too much sometimes coming apart completely. I tried to rectify the problem with plumber's tape but that only lasted so long. This clutch keeps my top hat in place with a clip system to hold it to the clutch under the cymbal (no more plumber's tape) and the red cincher holds steady. I haven't had a need to used the allen screw to keep it in place.

I use all Pearl hardware and am a fan. Quality hardware and affordable. The stock clutch on my hi hat kept loosening, so gave this a try. Much better. Tightens up nice and secure. You can feel the difference when tightening. Stays very secure, hasn’t loosened up on me once. Highly recommend for any brand hi hat.

This is a great clutch. Easy, solid, and snaps down in seconds. Pearl hardware is hard to beat.
