Q: Does excess flow mean free flow?

Mine works great and there is no excess flow to my knowledge.

Q: can the excess flow valve be removed? What is the maximum reliable flow?

The propane adapter has no pressure relief function, it can be connected to a 5-100 pound propane tank with a maximum pressure of 350 PSIG

Q: This feeling will not tighten down all the way on the female end of the quarter inch hose is there another fitting required

This fitting would not tighten enough to my hose to make it stop leaking. There are too many threads and the hose would not reach to the bottom of the GasSaf I had to buy from another company and get new hoses to make it leak proof.

Q: Will this connect directly to a Mapp gas torch?

No it will not, this an adapter that goes to a 20 pound Propane tank, 30 pound Propane tank and maybe a couple other sizes bigger.
