Northern book
I love Catherine cookson, her writing of my native north east is wonderful, her descriptions of rural life in the 19th century are so vivid you feel as if you are being transported back to that time. An excellent read.

Cookson did it again
I am only half way through this book but am finding it riveting. Catherine paints such a good picture to get you into the storyline. You almost feel you know the characters for real. I think I have seen a film adaptation of this book, but without as much detail. Really enjoying it, a fabulous read from a brilliant author.

NICE LITTLE READ
I love Catherine Cookson's books. This story was an easy read, but did not have me wishing it was bedtime (my time for reading) I did quite enjoy it, though I would recommend a sample first.

Some of the best modern novels are not “modern”
Try as I may to branch out to other authors I so often find myself going back to Cookson. When reading a book I only require a couple of things; I want to care about the characters and I do not want to roll my eyes at predictable plot lines and trite dialogue. (Why do so many recent books describe their characters as bewildered over their feelings? All that says to me is that the writer doesn’t understand his or her own creation) Having read about 7 of her works,Catherine Cookson novels deal with modern emotions although mostly in historical settings. They are not predictable plot lines and the reader really does care about the characters. Miss Martha Mary Crawford is an enjoyable read. I found it realistic and absorbing. I’m on to choose my next Cookson novel.

Miss Martha Mary Crawford
I was enthralled by the entire story until the very end when the flood waters reached the top story and then flooded the attic where Martha Mary, the injured doctor, Peg and Aunt Sophie were almost trapped. The events from here onwards, with them clinging to the wooden door, were blurry. One turn of events that I really enjoyed was the fact that Aunt Sophie was quite normal after all.

Thanks to the seller!
I was not aware that Catherine Marchant is a pseudonym for Catherine Cookson. I was angry when the book arrived and I thought it was not a Catherine Cookson book. At first I would not read it because I thought I had been duped. Then I was notified by the seller that this novel was indeed written by Catherine Cookson. Once I started reading the novel, I could not put it down. It was a fantastic read. I thank the seller for enlightening me on my stupidity.
