Cable free
This works so much better than the thin plastic ones that I had. Picture is clear 95% of the time. One channel in particular has issues in the late afternoon. Looks better than the thin plastic ones too. I live in the suburbs of a medium sized city so most local channels are only a few miles away. I can't vouch for distance. For my purposes, works great.

Decent job in receiving low band vhf stations
Purchased this antenna specifically to receive signal from WPVI in Philadelphia. It's a low band vhf frequency transmission and requires rabbit ears. Overall it does a decent job but placement of the antenna is everything.

So nice, I bought it twice!!
My mom bought the first one for me, and then I bought a second one for my other TV! Obviously you get more channels if you're closer to a major city, but it's relatively easy to install and isn't too finicky– holds a signal well and I only RARELY have weather related issues. With my previous antenna, I had signal issues whenever I walked in front of the TV, none of that anymore! Great buy.

average
the amplifier does not improve the reception. i have a tiny hd antenna that is 12 years old, with 4" rabbit ears, that gets identical reception to this big one. that being said, i get about 80% of the channels that are broadcast in my area so it does the job.*I tested the old antenna and this one side-by-side on the same day/TV/location - no difference. Then I tested this antenna with and without the amplifier, all other conditions identical - reception was identical with and without the amplifier. I'm located 50 miles south of Chicago, not the greatest for reception to begin with, 5-7-9-26-32-50 are all OK but channel 2 (CBS) is forever elusive!

Not what I wanted
This thing is not what I wanted. Still not getting all of my channels. Even after I did a channel search on my tv

Better than GE or others under 100 bucks
Better VHF reception than any other brand I have tried and I have tried a dozen types of indoor antennas. This is my recommendation for VHF reception using an indoor antenna under 100 dollars. Don't place near WIFI router or windows with metal screens for best results. And move around until you find the sweet spot. It's worth the effort.

Picks up ALL my local channels
I had been using one of the popular flat antennas but it could not pick up all of my local channels. Although most digital channels are UHF, some are VHF and these cannot be picked up with the standard flat antenna. This Phillips antenna comes with a dipole (rabbit ears) antenna which provides access to the VHF channels. Now I have access to all my local channels in addition the other channels within my range.
