Don't get this edition: the "unimproved" edition is better
Eugene Ehrlich's Amo, Amas, Amat and More is great for Latin study and also just for amusement (of a slightly erudite type, admittedly: but that's what he did in all his books). He wrote this book, Veni, Vidi, Vici without the revisions and "updating" by Margaret Brucia which make it longer, much more leftwing and preachy, and the conversion of the Latin to sayings she thinks are common in modern American are confusing --- one must every single time go to the text below to root out the actual translation, as opposed to some slick modern slogan that bears no relation to what the Latin actually means. I've finally stopped reading this and have sent for one actually written by the great Latinist Eugene Ehrlich and not messed up by a reviser.

Not for the serious
A fairly good collection of Latin proverbs but it assumes that you need a modern day (i.e. simplistic) translation. It does include the literal translation in most cases but I did not like having to scan the paragraph below the phrase for it. I'm also curious how an negative admonition to Rush Limbaugh fits into such a book. Methinks I can determine what political affiliation the author or editor claims and that's too bad. I'll be looking for something else that meets my expectations of such a serious subject.

Even More Proof Proof Everything Sounds Better in Latin
If you liked "Amo Amas Amat and More" this is more of the same. You'll never be at at a loss for a Latin idiom or quote with this book. Each entry has a phonetic translation into classical pronunciation and most have a clear explanation. A very useful book.

A useful collection with some irritating 'translations'
A companion book to the same author's A Dictionary of Latin Tags and Phrases with which there is no overlap in content, it tends to follow the same annoying practice as that other work of giving somewhat loose 'translations' in modern colloquial speak (thus "antiqua homo virtute et fide", literally "a man of old-style virtue and good faith" becomes "they don't make them like that any more") though a more literal translation is usually given in the accompanying commentary. Each entry also has an American style pronunciation guideline ("ahn-TEE-kwaah HAW-moh wihr-TOO-teh ahk FIH-deh").Most of the entries in this book are short expressions or phrases rather than complete proverbs, maxims, quotations and the like. It is nevertheless a useful collection. A Dictionary of Latin Tags and Phrases
