It is a 3M adhesive. I imagine that it would stick to wood.

What is the depth of the anchor plate? I need it for a laptop but don't want to significantly change the thickness of the laptop.

Probably 1/4" or less. I use mine on the lid to keep the underside level. It will not interfere with a case.
