Retro-Bit Super Retro Trio HD Plus 720P 3-in-1 Console System - Red/White

I bought this Retro Trio HD Plus to replace my RetroDuo that went bad, fast... A while back my sister had purchaced a retro-bit Duo for NES and SNES from a used games store. I don't know if the console was used or not though. It worked for a bit and then broke down, broke apart, and the pins became so damaged that the force required to remove the NES cartridge actually broke the cartridge internal board from it's plastic case. It rattles now. That was after the DUO had sat on my shelf unused for years. It was cheap, cheaply made, and you could easily tell just from holding it. But I figured that it was an early model and after so long, the company probably improved the product. So I took a chance on the Super Retro Trio HD Plus. For NES, SNES, & Genesis. The Video is a definite improvement. Crisp and clear. Same with the audio. Probably cause of the HDMI connector. Nice choice going in that direction. I also like the idea that they included the RGB plugs as well. Nice Touch. The included controllers are better designed as well. And feels better in my hands. Though I could complain about the button mapping. (why is the left shoulder button used so much when you have 4 buttons under my right thumb, mostly unused - Please add button mapping so I don't have to dig out my original genesis controller, though it is great that the Trio has original controller support) The power cord is just a USB wire with an AC outlet adapter. I actually like this idea cause the system doesn't take much power to run. Simple is better on this point. Especially since USB technology has improved so much. The Console Itself !!! This is where it all happens. A USB power plug, 2 video/audio output choices, multiple controller choices from the 2 that are included, to even being able to use the original system controllers. Ports for NES, SNES, and Genesis cartridges that grab the cartrige and hold it firm. The Genesis and SNES slots let go with less force required then the NES slot though. I'd like to see that required force lessen even more. the slot doors have some push to them, but when putting in a cartridge, you don't notice, so that's good. The reset and system selection buttons are well made. A definite improvement over the early models. And I like the more defined click between each option as oppossed to not really knowing if I was all the way off the console option and onto the "off" setting, like with the early models. Via flash light looking through the cartridge slot doors. NOT taking it apart. Internally, there seems to be 3 circuit boards, one for each slot with the power and output connectors on one, the controller connectors on another, and the 3rd just connects them. The plastic is better quality then the early models. The screws are tiny though. That was 1 of the 2 biggest issues with the early model. The screws were tiny and the plastic weak so that everything broke lose and broke the plastic just from inserting and removing the cartridges. But with seemingly stronger plastic, I hope for a MUCH longer life span on this console. The 2nd biggest issue I had with the early model, was the connector pins for the cartridges. The downward bend on the weak metal pins caused them to get snagged on the cartridge board and get pulled/bent upward. This caused the cartridge to get stuck, needing rediculous amounts of force to free it from the console. Possibly what broke the internal plastic on my cartridge. That's why I noted that the required force to remove the game from the TRIO was much better and will hopefully remain that way over many uses. (SAY NO TO BAD CONNECTOR PINS. LOL) FINAL SUMMERY !!! The Super Retro Trio HD Plus, sees vast improvements in all areas, from Retro-bits earlier model designs. And even included extra features to make your gaming experience better. It's simple to setup, is better made, has better audio and video, and just over all performs better. The price is actually really good for a 3 in 1 console. $97 (approx) doesn't go far in this world, so to get a whole console, let alone 3 in 1 for that price. Is great. Only time will tell if the connector pins are as easily bent, or the screws holding everything together, brake lose as easily. I have confidence that this console will last longer and remain on my shelf for years to come. Me and my rattle-y 1994 Jurassic Park NES cartridge have ALOT more gaming to do! So let's put it to the test, and game our hearts out. 5 STARS for vast improvements that create confidence in the product design!

Overall Super Retro Trio seems like a quality solution for playing old cartridges. I have a bunch of Nintendo games my son is always asking me about. But until now I had no way to play them. I looked at several retro gaming consoles and this one seemed like it had the best reviews and I can see why. The console itself seems well made. It is about the same size as the original Nintendo. It is lighter, but it doesn't feel flimsy. The included HDMI cable seems to be of good quality and fit snugly into both the console and my TV. The games feel a little tight sliding into and out of the system. My son needed some help pushing them in and pulling them out. I could see this causing an issue in the future if kids wiggle and torque the games too much and damage the console. The controllers definitely don't feel as well made as the original SNES controllers. They are lighter and feel more flimsy but they work well. The buttons are springy and firm and have good response. The SNES controllers that are included will work with Genesis and NES games too, and the button mapping is well done. For instance, they chose the right buttons for NES to allow you to easily hold down run and jump at the same time in Super Mario Bros. I think these controllers are good enough that there is no need to buy third-party ones. However, the wires that attach them to the system are short, so if you want more freedom you should consider a wireless SNES controller. There are also ports that allow you to plug in your original NES and Genesis controllers as well, which is a cool feature since I have a lot of Nintendo gear I am looking forward to playing with. I tested using one of the included controllers for player one and an original nintendo controller for player two and it worked. The NES Game Genie also worked. The graphics were as I remember them and had no issue displaying on an HDTV screen. Sometimes a weird line would show up on the screen. Juggling the cartridge a bit to make sure it was properly seated resolved this issue. The music sounds a little different on some of the games. I noticed this the most on Donkey Kong, where some music is missing. But overall, this is a small issue. For the price I really don't think you can beat this system if you have a bunch of cartridges laying around and need a way to play them, or if you just want to consolidate down to a single system for all your retro games. I've only played with this for a few days and I will update in a few months to talk about durability and reliability over time.

I've always been on the hunt for an HD solution for my NES, SNES and Genesis. I had my eye on the the Retron 5 but due to its severe hardware failure as well as being an emulation machine so certain games can't work for the life of it, I'm going to play it safe and not buy it. I had my eye on other clones consoles but out of all of them the Retro Trio + caught my attention as it allowed you to play the big three instead of only two out of the three which is inconvenient. The system came in nice working condition. In the box you get the system, HDMI cable, USB connector, USB outlet adapter, and two controllers. The controllers in my opinion are the biggest highlight as I used to own the Retro Duo back in the day and the controllers for that weren't the best as they were very plasticky and didn't feel the most responsive. But these were the opposite, the plastic used isn't so plasticky, the control pad, the buttons and even the triggers all feel really nice. Honestly I feel like using these controllers instead of the originals because of how nice they feel. Though I will say that the control pad is sensitive as I found my character moving to the right or left by just positioning my thumb to the left or right of the top part of the pad. But that's not really a deal breaker as long as your pushing exactly in the direction you're trying to go. All games I've tested on it so far have worked with no real issue but bare in mind my collection isn' the largest so this is NOT a replacement to the original systems, so there may be some games that may not work so bare that in mind. But the image quality is great, especially on the NES side, never have Tetris looked so good haha. But seriously the games look so crisp without any rough edges. Very smooth, very sharp, very nice. The sound as far I can hear is pretty much spot on though it is softer sounding then the original systems so you might want to turn up your volume to hear, but no big really. I also haven't noticed any input lag. The buttons respond pretty instantaneously as far as I see it and I've been playing the originals for quite some time. I played Contra on the NES and TMNT 4 on both the SNES and Genesis, very button heavy games and noticed no real lag. The system also have AV output on it so if you have AV cables you can hook it to your CRT and play your light gun games, though I haven't been able to test this at the time of this review. But the one deal breaker for some if not all people is the fact that the system stretches the picture of your games. This right here is literally the only negative I can find for this, however it's not at all a deal breaker for me as my TV allows you to change the aspect ratio. I also plan on using this to record gameplay footage for game reviews in the future and you can fix the aspect ratio in the editing software. So the stretched picture is no problem, but it is too bad they didn't include an aspect ratio switch on the system. But overall I'm extremely pleased with this console, the games look and play great and the system works without fail. If your looking for an HD solution for you old retro games and are okay with working around the stretched picture, then the Retro Trio + is worth the price of admission:)

This thing is very cool and there's a lot I want to cover here. Pros: - The picture quality is great and the color palettes for the systems look good - Flashcarts like the MD Everdrive and Snes PowerPak surprisingly work in it - Games like Doom for Snes and Yoshi's Island with special chips work just fine - The Super Gameboy works great too - The controllers are decent quality - (On my 32" Tv in "game mode") there is virtually no noticeable lag and it's just like the NES Classic or SNES Mini - Famicom games work with an adapter Cons - Some games like Stunt Race FX didn't work for me - The Everdrive N8 doesn't work for me either - The stock controllers have weird mapping for Genesis games and it might be better to just use Genesis controllers - It only outputs 16:9 so to play your games in the original aspect ratio your TV will need to adjust the picture to 4:3 - The audio on some NES games is a little off. Also I've read reviews of a blue model playing Genesis games at the wrong speed but this one plays them correctly. Maybe the blue unit is for PAL regions and this is for NTSC or something. Overall it could be better, there are some things that I wish worked that didn't, and it would be nice if it either output 4:3 by default or at least had a switch or a setting for it, but for the price it's pretty great especially considering that you get two controllers and an HDMI cable. It's pretty ambitious to release an HD system that plays three game libraries (five if you count Famicom and Gameboy) so it's not that surprising that a few things don't work, but honestly I'm very impressed with what did work, especially the flash carts. Update: The audio on some NES games is off. It doesn't sound awful like AtGames Genesis systems, just the tones are a little off and that might bother purists. Otherwise I love this thing.

I really wanted to like this gadget because it can run the three systems I want to play at about 40% cheaper than the Hyperkin Retron 5. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. 1. Build quality is poor. The aesthetic is nice, but the plastic is cheap. Immediately upon inserting my first NES cart to test it, the dust flaps instantly became noticeably scratched. That's ridiculous for a cartridge-based system. 2. The audio emulation is unacceptable. While the video emulation seems fine, the audio emulation sucks. I fired up Mario 1 for NES and right away you can tell the sound is just wrong. Coins sound flat and the power-up sound comes out as a lame warble. There's no reason to pay money for something that can't run 40+ year old software correctly. 3. The red flap at the front which covers the controller ports is annoying. I love the design and I really like the idea, but unfortunately, when you press it to open it, the flap only pops forward a tiny amount and you have to dig a fingernail in there to actually get it open. Swing and a miss. 4. The console has issues playing games, even original ones. I have original copies (not repros) of Mario 1, 2, 3, Tecmo Bowl, and TMNT. Of these, most worked, but they all required multiple re-inserts to seat the pins properly. TMNT absolutely refused to run... I cleaned it 3-4 times and re-seated it probably 15-20 times and nothing. Inserted the same game into a Hyperkin Retron 5 and BOOM... runs flawlessly, first try. In it's favor, I will say the SNES-style controllers are pretty great. It's a shame they don't sell these separately. I have a Retro-bit NES controller as well and I really like it... maybe they should stick to controllers. I'm kind of disappointed I have to return the SNES pads with the console to get my money back, but this console is pretty awful.

I’ve had this console for 3 years. It’s wonderful but when I play knuckles in sonic 2 it often goes back to the title screen. Overall the rest of my games on SNES and Genesis work.

First of all, I’m not a gamer- never was. But I grew up playing NES, SNES, and Genesis games. I have kids of my own now and they love the Xbox One and PS4. Don’t get me wrong, those systems are amazing, but I have a hard time playing them. I found some of my old game cartridges and systems in a recent move and busted them out again. Man, you just can’t beat the nostalgia of 1980’s and 1990’s technology. Sure, you can buy the NES “classic” mini systems with games preloaded, but 80% of those games I never played and you can’t add your favorites without a programming degree. Then I stumbled across this... You can play your old favorites. Don’t have them anymore? Find them online- many are still under $20! It’s nice having an old cartridge in your hand and not some downloaded crap. The best part is, this hooks up via an HDMI cable so it installs on all your modern TVs without adapters! We put the Xbox in the basement for the kids, and my wife and I spend the evenings laughing and playing Super Mario all night, while the kids play Fortnight and Minecraft in the basement with their friends. We have adults over for drinks and we all end up playing old NES or SNES or Sega games. Honesty, its worth it’s price in gold. This system plays them all fantastically and the sounds are just as I remember! Sure, we’re not as good at these as we were when we were in 1986, but it’s just as fun! This is one of the best purchases I’ve made in years! I’ve had it for only about 2 weeks and I’m still buying more games! Yes, it costs more to buy this and the original cartridges, but this way you’re never limited to what was pre-installed on a chip. And the best part is, it plays all if the major systems from the 80’s and 90’s on one console! Absolutely amazing. If you’re on the fence, DO IT! I’m so thrilled with my purchase! I would give it more stars if I could!

Retro Trio HD wenn man lust hat auf seine klassiker. Das einzige kleine manko ist dass es super mario allstars nicht abspielt, habe dafür eine andere retro trio version (schwarz blau) die hat einen snes pal-ntsc schalter und bei dieser konsole läuft das spiel. Wie gesagt die Konsole ist ansonsten gut und ich habe sie für einen Freund gekauft.

Vi varios videos antes de realizar la compra entre la comparativa de este sistema vs retron y en verdad estoy muy complacido con la compra, el único inconveniente que le veo es que el control debió de ser multiplataforma, afortunadamente tengo controles para cada consola pero si debieron hacer eso o de perdida incluir un control inalámbrico fuera de eso ahorra tiempo al tener que conectar cada consola para poder jugar y la calidad de audio y sonido es muy buena

It doesn't play absolutely everything but it plays most games, plays ea games and the strange carts, hdmi, looks great. I love it and ill live without the few games it doesn't play.
