This was the perfect Christmas gift for my mother in law who enjoys painting and sketching. She loved it and reported back that the paper takes watercolor beautifully!

The cover is nice. The crummy paper might pass for something to write on but definitely not acceptable for an artist’s journal. The paper signatures are bound with leather straps instead of binding thread, adding clumsy, unnecessary bulk.

the leather is really bad, it's thin, smells bad I also had a problem with amount of paper and the binding, you cannot write on the papers from side to side, there are leather knots (for binding).if you're really into this kind of things try Etsy, and as always do your research..

This is the most beautiful journal I have ever known. I use to journal when I was younger but stopped when my mother violated my secrecy my reading. I have never been able to journal again since no matter how nice of a journal I buy. But this journal is amazing the minute I opens it and saw it I feel in love and immediately started writing. It made me have that old feeling I use to have as young girl. The detail is absolutely stunning and it is so gorgeous. Great for yourself or as a gift. You will not be disappointed. I wish I could give it 10 stars/

I absolutely love this journal. It looks identical to the one pictured other than the obvious natural differences in the leather, I love that they are all unique because of those small differences though. The paper is also great, it doesn't have that cheap look and feel that a lot of mass produced journals do. If I saw this somewhere without knowing the price I would have thought it was more expensive than what it is. Great job on this one!I would also like to say that although I participated in the "Early Reviewer Program" that I would have given this journal the same review regardless, I wasn't even aware of the offer till after I had already written the review.

I love this journal so much. I would love to give it 5 stars, but I cannot. I love to write and draw in mine. For writing with a pen it works great. However, I read I should be able to draw in it, while you can draw the paper rips up when I erase, like it bunches up at my eraser and I have to be careful, I don't want the paper to tear through. Though it is very thick paper. I am sure this had to do with the type of paper. It is absolutely beautiful! If it was refillable I would likely buy it again because it is so beautiful and it is VERY durable. I just wish I could make mistakes and erase comfortably. Also the buffalo leather smell is very strong, which is totally fine if I didn't just become pregnant, so it's pretty strong. Overall it was a great purchase. And if you're wondering if you should buy it, I'm going to say YES, do it!Happy Shopping!!!

**UPDATE 2/24/2020**I stood the journal up on the counter, spread the leather and paper out to see if the smell would dissipate in the open air. After 10 days the smell has gone away and the journal now smells like leather. I have not changed my rating. The manufacturer should indicate why the journal smells and that it should be allowed to be left in the open air for several days to clear the smell. I would never give this as a gift because it is unusable as delivered. **This journal is beautiful but has a terrible strong chemical smell. I would never give it as a gift because of the smell. Card inside says made in India but it smells like all other products I have that were made in China. Very dissapointed.
