Fun-to-Wear Fabric Flowers

Fabulous book on making fabric flowers. I am delighted with this book and am sure I will use it over and over again. I like all the tips and the ideas for using the flowers on garments, shoes and bags etc. The instructions are reasonably easy to follow, the pictures of how they should look are very clear and, for the two I have made so far, easily achievable. A wide range and type of fabrics are used and suggestions for others are given. I am already planning all of the flowers I will make as presents for my trendy and elegant friends who are very difficult to buy presents for. Just make in the appropriate fabrics and sizes, add a pin or brooch back, and I'm sure they will be absolutely delighted to have something so exclusive. My 'plan' is that because the flowers are not generally hard to make, and I have lots of interesting bits of fabric and ribbons along with many beads and bits we should all be an interesting and well dressed lot. (Maybe). All of this from this wonderful book. In case you can't tell I am very excited about this book.

This was a great book and had the flowers I was wanting to know how to make. I do wish the book was laid out a little better. You have to reference other instructions from other sections in the book, I wish that each design had all the necessary instructions right there so that I didnt have to keep flipping back and forth.I also wish there were more picture diagrams. I think this would have helped me learn it quicker instead of some trial and error with some of the designs.Other than that it is a good book, maybe not for the beginer sewer though.

Upon receiving this book, I have to say I was delighted at first. The projects looked simple enough and the photos were beautiful, but when it came time to actually follow the instructions it wasn't as thoroughly laid out. There's only limited amount of illustrations and all else you kind of have to figure it out on your own. You only see photos of the finished product and not the working steps.I will definitely have to play around alot to find out what the "tricks" are in order to complete the flowers and get results as the author does.I feel that this book may be deceiving to the novice crafter who may need the steps laid out. It's a book that if you paid full price you'd be disappointed. Buy it used or at a reduced rate, therefore you wont be disappointed as much.

I read the reviews on how great this book is and honestly...I disagree (I too should have read the negative ones..when will I learn?!). I think it's a beautiful book with great photos of the finished flowers but the instructions are simply too vague for a beginner like myself to understand. I have to agree with M. Allred that step-by-step photos along with instruction would have been preferred over all the other photos. And like T. Davis, I just printed out my return label and I'm sending it back. The description gave me the impression this was a how-to book and it's not. If you're new to crafting flowers, I would look elsewhere as this is NOT a step-by-step guide at all - esp. for a beginner :(

I saw this book in a store previously, so I knew I would like it. I haven't had time to make anything yet, but am very excited about doing so. From what I saw, the instructions seemed pretty easy to follow and there was a nice variety of flowers shown, using many different methods. I think there was something for everyone in this book, that's what I liked the best of all.

I own about every how to textile book in print; so I really do know a good craft book when I see one. This is a good one. The directions are clear and easy to follow, the examples are good, and there are plenty of variations offered for each method. I would certainly highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to make fabric flowers to use on garments, journal covers, collages, gift boxes, and a myriad of other possibilities. I checked it out of the library before buying it and ordered it as soon as I had read it, as it's one I know I'll use over time.

This is exactly the type of book I've been looking for !!! Thank you Elizabeth Searle for writing it and designing all of these ***fantastic*** flowers. The directions look to be very informative and easy to follow. What an awesome assortment to choose from. I AM SO EXCITED !! I just received it today and can hardly wait to begin making some myself. The only problem I foresee is choosing which design to make first !! Got to go ! I can hear the fabric calling me !!! THANKS AGAIN !! PS: BUY THIS BOOK NOW !!!

Well I read the reviews on this and although there were plenty of positive things to say I should have listened to the more negative ones. The negative reviews were right, there is total lack of instruction. The ideas are really cute in the book!- Just get creative and try and figure out how to do them on your own. Because there are VERY vague instructions. The author was more concerned about cute pictures than pictures of how to do it. I would have loved to see step by step pictures as apposed to a giant picture of someone wearing the bow, it defeats the purpose of the book! There is already a picture of the finished product! Why do people need 2 pictures? I would not recommend this book to anyone. Hopefully I can Look at the picture long enough so as to make sense of how she did it?...Wish me luck!

This is a lovely and very well presented book and I had so looked forward to it arriving but, I have to say that my initial reaction was one of disappointment. Most of the flowers are very similar and one feels that it is the same pattern just made from different fabrics to change the look of each one, which basically is a good idea but I really was hoping for a book that would be superb rather than just very nice. Now there will be other people who will think this book is gorgeous and certainly the photos etc. are quite beautiful and I cannot fault the presentation, but for me I could proberbly have come up with the same ideas myself, so a bit of a waste of money but nevertheless, I would still recommend this book if you love creating items that would normally cost a small fortune in the shops and which can change the look of all your outfits and also give them an Haute Couture feel about them.

An attractive book with simple, short and easy to follow instructions embellished with lovely pictures - showing anyone can do it! It gives you good basic knowledge of how to produce several different types of professional looking flowers but also shows you how to change the look and inspires you to be experimental. Really good value for money.

Though I have done sewing in the past and started again I found this book usefull as a starting point for the future, it kicks your brain into action and am sure I can further develop what I have read. Always usefull to have the opportunity to have a starting point especially as the embelishments are appearing on all sorts of things.

Lovely photos of made items shame not enough help and guidance of making them! I will now have to buy the book i set out to buy!

Some lovely flowers to make but some of them are very basic and not finished properly a little scruffy looking ,but the good ones make up for the bad ones ,great for embellishing bags and cushions maybe
