Hugo In Three Months Italian: Beginner's Language Course (Hugo in 3 Months)

As I am half Italian, I thought it was about time to fully focus on learning the language.The book is absolutely amazing! If you’re taking language learning very serious and going for it, this book is very helpful and clear while starting from the beginning of learning Italian.I’m currently in week 3 and learned a lot already. I do have to mention that I listen to Italian radio most of the day, using duo lingo in addition and taking notes while learning to improve the study process.In short: well explained, clear, and a word list at the end of every week.Improvement: adding the answers of the exercises to check yourself.

I am taking an Italian class at the moment and I find it far too intense and fast-moving. Although it is for beginners, most students have some experience so I felt I was floundering. This Hugo's course has helped me a lot - I can move at my own pace, there are lots of little sets of exercises which I correct myself. If I do badly on one test, I can go back and restudy that section. I am an earlybird, so when I wake, when my mind is fresh, I do a little work as I drink my morning tea. No pressure, no embarrassment. Great value! Ciao!

I have used several of these "3 months" books before and found them very good. This one, I must confess, felt like the hardest 1 to master, and I am supplementing it with other books. Perhaps it's just that Italian grammar is very complicated but I found myself getting bogged down in verb and adjective endings rather than learning to communicate. That said, it will have all the grammar in you need to master the basics and will continue to be a good reference book.

Though slightly old-fashioned it does give a good basic grounding to learning Italian

My boyfriend recommended this when I wanted to learn Italian, he taught himself years ago and writes research papers for which he needs to read documents in the original Italian, so it worked for him! I am motivated to do a bit every day, probably not the recommended hour, it is clear and moves swiftly along, not boring and slow moving. You only really need the CDs so you can hear the pronounciation, which is important but it does tell you how to pronounce things in the book. Enjoyable and challenging!
