Works ok for inline duct AIR filter
I bought 20 lbs of this to replace the carbon in an inline air filter. It's not perfect but this DIY method works good enough.Howto:Needed:dremel, or a way to cut rivets.drywall screwsself tap screwsvibration toolpatienceNOTICE: This is an extremely messy process, the tiniest granules will fall out of the air filter upon filling. I kept the outer prefilter on to help mitigate this.steps:1) Remove the metal cap2) Cut the rivets off with a dremel, remove rubber/plastic cap, dump old material. Take a pic if you need to remember how it looks.ENSURE the center duct stays straight for the next steps, this is CRITICAL.3) Keep the original sock in place, fill a little, make sure it settles to the very bottom, use a vibrator tool to make it settle. Make sure center duct is straight.3) Fill in circular pattern, more vibration as you go. Fill to the very top, you will want to BARELY be able to put the cap back on, the material must be in VERY tight. Don't worry, the air will still flow properly.4) Put 3 or 4 drywall screws in the cap. Replace metal cap, screw in with self tapping screwsDepending on how well you filled the material, the cap(s) may not fit if the duct isn't centered properly. Some persuasion maybe necessary. This is process similar to a water filter, the same principles apply. This saved me 50 bucks (vs a new filter) and the quality of the husk is known.NOTE: This will affect air pressure because it's a tighter fit, you may need to increase fan speed.

3 stage water filter use
I wanted to make a 3 stage bucket water filter. I was torn between pelleted charcoal and this. I went with this and it was a good choice. I put it into a filter bag of the type used for making beer. It took some time to rinse the dust off, but once done, the water is clear. For this use, I highly recommend the bag. It made the rinsing and inserting into bucket much easier!
