"Game Feel" exposes "feel" as a hidden language in game design that no one has fully articulated yet. The language could be compared to the building blocks of music (time signatures, chord progressions, verse) - no matter the instruments, style or time period - these building blocks come into play. Feel and sensation are similar building blocks where game design is concerned. They create the meta-sensation of involvement with a game. The understanding of how game designers create feel, and affect feel are only partially understood by most in the field and tends to be overlooked as a method or course of study, yet a game's feel is central to a game's success. This book brings the subject of feel to light by consolidating existing theories into a cohesive book. The book covers topics like the role of sound, ancillary indicators, the importance of metaphor, how people perceive things, and a brief history of feel in games. The associated web site contains a playset with ready-made tools to design feel in games, six key components to creating virtual sensation. There's a play palette too, so the desiger can first experience the importance of that component by altering variables and feeling the results. The playset allows the reader to experience each of the sensations described in the book, and then allows them to apply them to their own projects. Creating game feel without having to program, essentially. The final version of the playset will have enough flexibility that the reader will be able to use it as a companion to the exercises in the book, working through each one to create the feel described. Review: Excellent, no other words needed - Game design is hard and the concepts behind game feel can be even harder, so far this book has been a great fallback when designing unique mechanics and systems and doesn't ever make you feel stupid or behind. Biggest confidence boost so far. Review: Good condition Amazing read. - Amazing book shipped in good condition which is surprising since it's a paper back and most my books I got from desertcart have at least a little damage from shipping. Definitely pick up this book if you make games.

My 22 year-old grandson was incredibly happy with this gift!
I can't write a meaningful review of the content of this book, because I don't begin to understand it, however, it was one of the things my grandson requested for his 22nd birthday, and he seemed thrilled to get it and he tells me it's a great book, so I can say whole heartedly, this is a terrific birthday gift for anyone who's into computer games.

MUST HAVE for game devs
Fantastic book about the theories of what makes a game feel good and fun to play. I'd be doing the author a disservice if I attempted to explain it myself, just purchase the book and read it for yourself. Written very well and easy to understand even while going into very complex and intricate explanations. I'd say that this is a must have for any game developer. Hell, even for those who are just interested in learning more about games.

Excellent read but missing key promises
The book manages to teach its core philosophy of what game feel is without boring the reader and has some good visuals. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, over half the game demos meant to be played alongside the book are not obtainable. The book functions well enough without them, but mentions these games often enough that it leaves a scorching hole in the text. Look for an opportunity to get this one used or at a discount.

More Theory than Actionable Advice on Game Design
Not a bad book, but not what I expected going in. I read this for a bookclub like event on twitch. I thought there was going to be actionable advice. Like 'do X to make Y feel". The introduction points out that the book is not about the emotional feelings a player receives from games, and this is true. The book DOES provide a language for discussing game design at a more academic level. It is about the theory of how a game feels, and while I didn't agree with everything Steve wrote it was easy enough to follow the thoughts.

Essential Read for Serious Game Developers!
“Game Feel” digs deep into the magic behind making games feel right. It’s technical, but incredibly readable, blending theory with real-world examples. Every serious designer should have this on their shelf. It truly sharpens your understanding of interaction and player experience.

Interesting topic. Some good insights.
The topic of game feel is not covered as much as it could be in most games design texts. Author has some interesting insights that can really help you think about game design deeper. Minus point because the mentioned website is unfinished/abandoned though the book stands alone fine without it.
