Best pencil. Must have
I was afraid to buy these because of negaitive reviews. But this is an amazing pencil once you understand how to use it. Yes it is difficult to work with. Needs lots of practice but the velvety feel of the strokes is amazing. Try it on textured paper. It is a very professional tool. I have uploaded an unfinished artwork of mibe along with this description because while using these oencils, I had a strong feeling to write a review. Go for these pencils. Yes they are scratchy and can easily damage even a good quality paper. It is difficult to hande but its amazing. All the beat fellow artist. Good
Conte isn't quite the same as red or black chalk, which is what figure studies and portrait sketches were originally done in, and it's more like a mix of coloured charcoal and graphite. It's much rougher feeling than pastels or chalk, and sometime's there'll be a bit of grit in it that you have to slice away with a blade. But the pigment is much richer and redder than sanguine pastel. Bear in mind these pencils are quite thick- you'll need Conte's special wooden sharpener to really sharpen them (a regular larger holed metal sharpener can't do the trick). Or use a knife and sandpaper block. They blend just as well as chalk and pastel, erase slightly better than pastels.
