Simple Checkmates: More Than 400 Exercises for Novices of All Ages!

This is a fun book to re-familiarize myself with chess. It is a more advanced book than Bobby Ficher Teaches Chess, but along the same line. It also helps with understanding algebraic notation. I would recommend this book for the beginner or for anyone getting back into chess. The diagrams and nitation are helpful in learning the algebraic notation.

I'm racing ahead of my 7 year old to nearly complete this recently purchased book. It's so much better than so many starter puzzle books we tried. Many too tough. Others too easy or not categorized or not advancing an idea. My 7 year old likes doing puzzles now and is liking chess more and more because of this one.

This book is exactly what I was looking for. My 7 year old is getting into chess and loves the problem-solving approach of this book. It’s easy for him to pick up the book during his school breaks and focus on a problem or two. The book is teaching him to think about the endgame. I read the intro with him and explained how the book worked, and he’s been doing fine with it on his own since then.

Love it, it's great for beginners or even more advance players. Small so u can take it everywhere with you. I've seen instant results in my games. Highly recommendable, thumbs up.

This book is easy to use and I found the chess puzzles interesting and instructive.

This is one of the first books to use to learn chess. After you or your child know how the pieces move, the object is to look at the diagram and find a checkmate.Most books of this type have problems that are over the heads of beginners. This book is on target.Part of learning how to do checkmate in two moves is to know checkmate when you see it, and to be able to later back up a step and find that same mate again one and then two moves away. In this light the book starts with checkmates. It shows you positions that are checkmate. You will see some patterns you haven't used yet. Even if you are an adult player, do not underestimate this. If you keep the book somewhere that you will have a moment or two to stare at it, ( like by your phone, ) you will discover that over time you get familiar with many patterns. Then you find the checkmates in one and the ones later in two come a lot easier.Another advantage to this book is because it is light material, it is suitable for times when you just want something really light, such as right before sleep.If you dont own the book, get the book. It is very inexpensive.I own 2 copies.I also like the fact that the answers are at the bottom of the page which keeps a student from having to flip through the book to check their answer.BR>yes real girls play chess

The last time I played in a tournament I was peak rated as a 1700 player. This book has a very good selection of checkmate puzzles for me. I can usually find the correct answer in less than four minutes but there are some stumpers, and I also get the first move wrong from time to time. I like a lot of positive reinforcement so this is a good book for me.

Good book and quick delivery.

Very helpful for both young and older beginners.. I like the puzzles because they emphasise the key patterns without being unduly repetitive. Good value compared with similar books in the same market.

私のような超初心者はBobby fischer teaches chessの後に読むと丁度良かったです。もちろん一冊目でも良いと思います！でも途中から難易度が徐々に上がっていきます。本ならスマホのタクティクスと違ってじっくり頭の中で駒を動かせるし(スマホだと動かせるから頭より手が先に動いちゃう...)、目にも優しいので助かっています。本のサイズは女性の私からするとちょっと大きいかなと感じました。見やすいですけどね！

全２４０ページ１手問題　１１６問２手問題　３１７問１ページに２問掲載、解答手順がページ下に記載されています。洋書ですが、問題に対する解答はほとんど手順のみですので英語が苦手な方にもおすすめです。入門書を読み終えた人に丁度良い内容の本です。チェックメイト問題はパズル的要素があるので面白い、だけでなくこの本では日頃のゲームに頻出するチェックメイトのパターンを学べるので実戦に役立ちます。ボビーフィッシャーのチェス入門と同じぐらいの難易度問題です。上記入門書を読んだ方でも覚えた知識の整理、トレーニングに役立ちます。

本当に基本的な１手詰、２手詰をたくさん載せた本。洋書だが、殆ど盤面図しかないので、文章を読めなくても良い。　基本的な駒の動かし方を学んだ後、チェックメイトのパターンを感覚で覚えるのに良さそうな本だ。ちょっと時間が空いたときに少しずつ読むだけで、ためになるような本だ。
