Amazing book, a must for parents and writers and those who work with children
I bought the kindle edition a few days ago and cannot put the book down. The stories that the book contain are wonderful but that is only the beginning of it. Susan had laid out in a clear and exiting way both her development with story teller as an educator, mother and healer. The way she describes how she creates the stories is magnificent both in its simplicity and depth. It is inspiring to learn about the success stories of how the stories helped different children and adults, in fact saved them in certain instances. The kindle edition is great. It is also easy to navigate around the book, what I did was, jump to a story with just search of the title and then going back with a book mark.

Put into use already
I love the premise of this book. It is such a healthy and nurturing way to be with, to discipline and to lead our children. I am a mother of three girls, one very fiery- we butt heads a lot. I haven't had time to read the whole book yet, but I skimmed and perused and got the gist of it, and put it into action today! My three year old was screaming at me for something (a regular occurrence) and so suddenly (remembering "Healing Stories..") I asked her if I had ever told her the story of Screamy Mimi. She quieted instantly and all ears perked up. I told a story, using what I had learned, about a little girl who screamed at everyone instead of talking and so no one could understand what she was saying. Anyway, she finds an owl in the forest who teachers her how to communicate in a way that people will listen and finds great friendship and happiness. No more screaming! Today at least :)The wisdom is invaluable, I can see this book as possibly the defining outside source of my parenting style (along with Simplicity Parenting, of course). Highly recommended.

Wonderful short stories for bedtime, with or without "challenging behavior"
I am always looking for good stories for my son (3 years old) - He is so quick to internalize and begin imitating stories I give him that I want each one to be worthy of our time and his attention. This book is FULL of wonderful short stories for nap time or bed time. We have never had a book before without pictures, but ever since I opened this one, he has not wanted to go back to his picture books. He enjoys imagining the scenes in his mind as I read. I appreciate that the book is divided into topics (stories for situations a child may be facing, such as feeling shy, clinging to mom, being uncooperative, feeling impatient). Also, the stories are prefaced with a guide for what is age-appropriate. I can tell that we will be using this book not just now but well into his 7th or 8th year.

Wonderful book, though Kindle edition is clunky to navigate
What a great collection of stories! There really is something soothing in her stories that resonates with my children. It pains me to take a star off of my review as it is no reflection on Susan Perrow's work, but on how the Kindle edition is set up. The Kindle edition is only organized by chapters, without subchapters listing all the stories within each section. So all the wonderful stories in this book not listed at all! So, if one is looking for a particular tale to tell, it can be very challenging to find what you are looking for. Say I wish to read her story The Light Princess. I can only find this by searching for keywords, but 'light' & 'princess' appear many times in the book. So I have to strategically remember another another element or phrase from the story that won't likely be in another story. Frustrating e-book, but wonderful book. I'd recommend a paper copy of this book unless a revised Kindle version is released.

Wholeheartedly recommended
Simply lovely! 'Healing Stories for Challenging Behavior' is tailored to help children and parents in the best possible way, by creating an environment of better understanding through story-telling.For many parents story-telling is not easy. However, Susan Perrow has set out to make it much easier and much more rewarding. She provides a step-by-step story-telling guide and introduces the reader to her own excellent stories, as well as stories from around the world that will help families to soothe hurt feelings and solve problems. The book inspires imagination and offers practical ideas on how to deal with challenging behavior.Wholeheartedly recommended!

Essential reading for any parent
I cannot say enough about this book. I have learned so much and have been using several of the stories at home with my sensitive children. We love the stories and they have made a huge impact, particularly on my son.

A great book
I would highly recommend this book to anyone with children between 3 and 8. I've used a few of the stories on my children and my childcare kids and they yield immediate results, far more effective in affirming positive behavior and correcting negative behavior than any other parenting method I've used, I was impressed. I found it better to tell the story to the children instead of read it. The book is beautifully written and to the point, I love how every story comes with a guide on how it can be used.

Superb book, instantly captivates.
I got this book for my four year old daughter about a month ago. She has asked for stories from it every night since. They are stories with a deeper meaning and are joyous to read over and over again. Not the usual bland story, but unique, magical and almost mystical. They leave you wanting to read more, think more and often my daughter has brought forward some meaning which I hadn't seen. It is lovely to see what she interprets from and already has favorites which she requests depending on how she is feeling that day. Highly recommend to anyone who wants more from a story.

The book provides helpful insights to building stories and dealing with tricky behavioral situations with children. The stories have inspired me to review my own observations and experiences and present them as 'stories'.
