Good version of the play
Not knowing Ancient Greek this seems to me a good version of the play. They have a section which explains how the plays were performed and what the various participants were suppose to do. It made me want to find a dvd with the play performed as it would have been done in Ancient Greece. The sections on various aspects of Greek life and how they pertained to the play were also valuable. This is a good introduction to the play.

The story is excellent and entertaining. The translation was a bit Shakespearean, but not unreadable.

Antigone by sophocles
One of the great classic works of ancient Greece. Antigone by Sophocles is a major contribution to the earliest forms of drama, fiction, and stage play writing. It remains an invaluable source material for the development of tragedy through the years.

not worth the price
I bought this book for my high school brother for his English class. Because of the difficulty of this text, I specifically picked this version because it listed that it included a glossary of difficult terms, a list of vocabulary words, and convenient sidebar notes. When I read Othello, I got a similar book, with helpful notes, etc, and it made the analyzing process much easier.I was VERY disappointed when this book arrived, and it had NONE of the features it promised. The only thing included was the actual script, no glossary, no vocabulary, no notes.I would say that this version is fine for people only looking for the original text, but at around $7, it really isn't worth it. If you're just looking for the text, the Dover Thrift editions are a much better buy at around $2.25. I paid $7 expecting additional features, which were not there. I am disappointed and upset about the false representation of this product and will not buy from this seller again.Only good aspect of this product is there is a lot of space between lines for annotations. My favorite translation of Antigone
I used to teach Antigone and consider this translation my favorite because the language just feels contemporary. I enjoyed the background material too. This material was succinct, to the point and useful.

Why the olde English?
Why do we need this “Shakespearean” language in a standard text? It is just another barrier between the student and the play, Greeks did not speak like this! It just makes people have to stop reading and refer to the glossary. Modern students must find it hard. I finished all my education by the end of the 1960s and there were good modern translations then. And we were more familiar with 16c English then, through the Bible etc.
