Gibson Practice Chanter Kit

I guess it's so expensive due to low manufacturing volume. Because it's just plastic. But this one is about the cheapest Gibson long practice chanter I could find, once shipping cost is accounted. Since I'm new and attempting to learn some basics before I find an instructor who uses Skype. This is the one I wanted.It works well, comes with 1 reed, and a book. I'm not actually using the book because I'm using Dojo University's online course, so I can't comment on it's content. I haven't even really looked at it. I bought additional reeds just so I could rotate them out. 1 reed should be ok as long as you give it time to dry out. But since I practice randomly throughout the day, I bought extras.PS: If look around you can find reeds cheaper then what is available here on Amazon, or Ebay. So if you're trying to save some money, Google is your friend. Reeds here and on Ebay aren't cheap.

My son has always wanted to learn the pipes. He was thrilled to get this chanter for Christmas. It was on the pricier end but after a bunch of research, it had the best ratings. I'm very glad I went for it. He was making the correct sounds pretty much immediately, no frustration, no regret. It's so easy for a beginner to be put off a new instrument by inferior quality, thinking the problem is they can't learn it. That won't be a problem here. He picks up his chanter often when he wants to unwind and relax. Very pleased with this purchase. Next step: finding a tutor!

I have always wanted to learn to play the bagpipes but didn't want to spend a great deal of money in case I found that I couldn't learn the instrument. The Gibson Practice Chanter Kit was just what I was looking for - instructions, a listening CD, and a good quality instrument. I have discovered that I'm not very good at it yet, but I hope with practice and with the instructions, I can become better and better until I feel comfortable. I am a professional musician and do have a little training on the oboe and bassoon, so I was familiar with the reed and the producing of the sound. However, I think anyone could have fun learning a lot about the bagpipe tradition and would be able to learn to play limited music with this kit. I'm enjoying every note!

I purchased this item back in sept. 2011 I used the instruction booklet and chanter and picked up the basics of piping. This package will get you as far as introduction to bagpipe fundamentals. Reading music, embellishments and playing music. I recommend Gibson reeds to go along with this set, they are pricey but bagpiping is not for the faint of heart, hearing, or wealth.I would also suggest after mastering the instructional book to go and find a professional instructor. There are men and women willing and able to continue you journey into this special instrument. All the best and good luck!

I knew absolutely nothing about the process of learning to play the bagpipes when I ordered this kit. I am progressing better than I expected thanks to this kit. I accidentally ordered a pipe that was too long for my hands and they immediately replaced it. In addition to the instructions they give you, there are videos on youtube that follow the instruction book that are wonderfully supplemental.

It was easy to set up and to get working. Any issues are do to myself. I find the fingering challenging, though I am working on it. I definitely have an appreciation for those who can play the bagpipes.

I purchased this kit that was supposed to come with the Chanter, reed, case, green book and CD. The CD was not included in the kit. Disappointed that the kit does not contain all of the items as advertised. Will return and purchase elsewhere.

The Gibson Practice Chanter Kit is the way to go if you are learning to play the Bag Pipes. This is a wonderful deal because you get the Chanter, Green book and CD (a must) and a carrying case.
