Swim! (Board Buddies)

Nice colorful illustrations
SWIM is a very basic board book. It is made well and should hold up to my twin grandchildren flipping through it many times.I especially like the colorful illustrations done by Eric Velasquez. Bright primary colors. There's not much text by Marilyn Brigham - even less than I would expect in a board book. But young toddlers should have a good time looking at the pictures and "reading" by themselves.

Perfect for little swimmers
My almost 3 year old daughter is taking swimming lessons so when I got this book she was so excited. This is a very small board book. Durable, and quite simple. There is, at the most, 3 words per page. The drawings are pretty good, nothing exciting or wonderful. But my daughter really finds the book entertaining, and I guess that's what counts. The book is selling for $2.00 and I think that price is spot on. Like I said, this book is very small and incredibly simple, but if you have a child that loves to swim, this may be a perfect book for them!

Just the thing for your water baby.
Swim! is a little board book like the ones my kids had when they were toddlers. With its bright illustrations and short, simple, active words, it's a nice change from an ABC book. The pictures tell enough of a story that you might like to have your small child "read" the story to you once in a while; they love that! This kind of book is a step in the reading direction for any little one.

A timely topic, even for the very young
A child cannot become water-safe too soon, so even a board book that addresses swimming is appropriate. This one is colorful, sturdy, and presents the ideas of being around the water in a fun way.

Kinda Disappointed....
I thought this book would be great for my toddler who is learning to swim, but I'm disappointed because there is no story line to the book and there are literally 22 words in the whole book (2 words per page). Although there's no story line, it does showcase some of the things you can do in the pool like splashing, kicking, doggy paddling, and floating in beautifully colored illustrations which my child can relate to. Also, when she's learning to read, this book will be a good tool to help learn simple sight words.I do like the size of the book and that it's in board book format so that my daughter can turn the pages easily herself without tearing up the pages and durability is a must with small kids. Overall, it's a cute book, but if you're looking for a plot about swimming, choose another book.

My kids like it
This board book has quickly become a favorite around our house. It's simple words are easy for little ones to quickly memorize and my toddler loves to shout out the words as I turn the page. The pictures are simple and pleasant. What I most like about it is the sturdy pages that stand up to drool and grubby little hands.

Expected more...
I expected more from this book. It's not really a story, but mostly pictures of children swimming and two or three words per page describing what they are doing. I thought this would be a fun book for my 4 year old, but it turns out it's more for our 10 month old. The illustrations are cute and colorful and are eye catching for a baby.

Very Basic
I purchased this book for the Angel Tree program at a local organization. Choosing quantity over quality, I thought this would be a nice stocking stuffer. The illustrations are very simplistic and most pages only include one word. I find this to be less than ideal for the developing young reader, even if it is a first book. In hindsight, I probably would not have gotten this book for the Angel Tree.
