Verdure: Vegetable Recipes from the Kitchen of the American Academy in Rome, Rome Sustainable Food Project

Fantastico!
I am enjoying this book, and it was definitely worth the non-Amazon price I paid for it. It has given me new courage, new knowledge, new techniques and new approaches for the fresh, seasonal produce that I've picked up at our local farmers markets. I only recently started exploring it after purchasing it at Eataly in Chicago just over a year ago (looking for ways to recreate my yummy meal at Eataly's Le Verdure).Philosophically speaking, I would call this a slow-food cookbook. I'm not sure I would suggest it, initially, as a resource for a harried weeknight cook. However once this harried cook has absorbed the knowledge and the approaches in "Verdure," I think said cook would be able to incorporate the approaches into his/her routine and make dinner look like an easy-breezy affair, complete with a nice glass of red wine. :-) Two thumbs up.

Great recipes, Great eating.
A great companion cookbook to Zuppe. These cookbooks are small in size, but full of wonderful delicious, robust recipes that will make you excited about cooking as well as eating. They also make great gifts.

This series is amazing. The recipes are in some ways similar to those in the Ottolenghi series, but in many ways these are simpler and just as delicious. I love that they are organized by season.

very useful
I have too many cookbooks, but this one will go on my Never Give Away shelf. Fine simple recipes and a very useful introduction and closing section on basics. Highly recommended.

Adding to the excellent and essential AAR kitchen cookbooks.
Not only is this book good eating, but it is also good reading. Chris' story about native Italian and Roman vegetables moves you to plant, harvest and eat!

Not reliable or inspiring
This is disappointing. The recipes are about vegetables as purely vegetables, alone with a finish, in combination or in salads. For someone hoping for help with the annual glut of certain vegetables, or hoping to find new, and desirable ways to use the many different vegetables available in Italy (where I live), this is no help at all. And all too often they use vegetables that are difficult , or even impossible, to obtain satisfactorily. Then I have tried two of the recipes - once - and never again. This is never going to be one of those totally reliable and inspiring cookbooks. The real message seems to be about their programme, and all too many of the illustrations are of life at the academy.

Very good
I Am Italian and I was a cook so I guess I do have some ideas about authentic Italian food. I can honestly say that this is a lovely, lovely book, full of good recipes that speak with a true Italian accent.
