Hi ,No the lid should not be removed

Should mine be leaking white powder?

It should not leak. That means it is defective and you should return it

is 1000g suitable for kitchen use?

I don't see why not. I bought it along with a fire blanket for my motorhome. It is suitable for most types of fire.
