Elly Sienkiewicz's Beloved Baltimore Album Quilts: 25 Blocks, 12 Quilts, Embellishment Techniques Paperback – November 16, 2010

Where do I even start? This book is wonderful just to look at. The quilts, blocks, and fabrics, just beautiful! It is so comprehensive. The wealth of knowledge Elly has compiled into this 127 page book is unbelievable. There are so many great techniques including painting techniques, embroidery, silhouette portraits, stencil shading, beading, calligraphy, and on. OMG!There are 25 block patterns to make a 68"X68" gorgeous quilt called "Happiness Is in the Journey". Each block pattern includes the Symbolism of the block and Pattern Notes that include page numbers to needed techniques earlier in the book.This book is a treasure. Elly's knowledge of everything Baltimore Album is immense and we are very fortunate to have her in Quilt World.

After looking at the blocks and quilts featured in this book, I decided that the Baltimore style is generally too ornate for my taste. However, the book includes lots of great tips for creating fine hand applique, including how to deal with trouble spots like sharp inside corners. There is an entire chapter with many interesting embellishments. So I will use the information in this book on the quilt I decided to make even though it won't be a Baltimore. I also enjoyed the history and seeing how the blocks made by so many different hands came together into lovely, cohesive quilts.

These applique designs are absolutely gorgeous. The instructions are well written and easy to understand. I am starting my first Baltimore Album quilt with them.

This book is amazing. I have been looking for a book on Baltimore blocks for years. This one not only contains an excellent variety of blocks but also very good directions on how to do the more intricate bits of stitching and turning. Not for the beginner but for someone who has done at least some appliqué stitching. Reading the book and looking at some of the amazing examples it really gives you inspiration to take flight and make each block how you want it to look, not how someone else dictates. Highly recommend and worth every cent!

The designs are great and the instructions are very clear. Simple techniques are given to transfer the patterns to cloth to begin each block. It takes the quilter step by step to create a beautiful block and if you wish a quilt of these.

i absolutely loved it and is preparing to do the quilt. I will recomend it to all my friends and family, as a matter of fact I have alreaddy started. The only problem is that i will have to device somthing to use instead of freezer paper because it is not available in south Africa and to expensive to import.

Very glad to have this book. I saw many of the quilts in this book in a special exhibit at Houston this year but no photos were allowed. The quilts in the book were made by many quilters who had taken classes from Elly. She lists their names by quilt at the back of the book There is instructions on how to do the different techniques and patterns as well. I recommend this book.

Beaultful colored photos of quilts. This book gives you the basics of appliquie then goes on to show the art and embellishments that made this quilts so beautiful. Along with the many classic patterns the author also tells the history and the symbolism that made these quilts so unique. Another great book by Elly Sienkiewicz.

I just love this book and have started on making the blocks. A must for anyone who loves Baltimore quilting. Something for novice to expert.

If you love love flowers and enjoy doing detailed work, then this is the book for you. Clear instructions, many detailed patterns plus tricks of the trade. Very inspirational.

Ce livre est absolument magnifique! Tous les modèles ne sont peut-être pas facilement réalisables par une débutante, mais ils sont tellement beaux que celà donne envie de se perfectionner (moi-même en étant une!!). Le seul petit regret est qu'il soit en anglais mais bon avec un dictionnaire à portée de main on y arrive!

Dieses Buch wendet sich an alle, die mit der Hand applizieren. Sehr gute, detaillierte Beschreibung der verschiedenen Nähtechniken. Gute Mustervorlagen, aber vor allem: Die Fotos von den fertigen Quilts (bzw. Deitailansichten) sind bewunderswert.Da krabbelt eine kleine Raupe auf einem Stengel oder ein Marienkäfer sitzt auf einem Blatt. Es ist sehr viel Leben in den Motiven. Aufgrund der Detailvielfalt nur für Menschen mit Spaß am Handnähen und mit einiger Näherfahrung zum Nachnähen zu empfehlen; wenn man allerdings das Applizieren "von der Pieke auf" lernen möchte, ist dieses Buch sehr empfehlenswert, weil man die vorgestellten Techniken auf jedes andere Projekt übertragen kann. Ich habe sehr viel aus dem Buch übernommen undso manches "Aha-Erlebnis" gehabt.
