Does NOT control volume of water, only controls mix of hot and cold
I wrongly and expensively assumed that all valves performed the same functions. NOT TRUE.The valve I replaced worked as follows: pull handle up (towards you) to turn water on, how high you move it up determines the volume (trickle vs increasing amounts), swing handle to left for hotter water and to the right for colder water. This particular Kohler valve does not have a volume control, no trickles or small amounts of water, just full blast at all times. The handle moves in a semi-circle starting at cold. It adds hot to the cold as you turn the handle. If you would like to control the amount of water coming out of the trim, THIS IS NOT THE VALVE.In addition to the water valve - a different model than this one -you need a valve called a volume valve $$$ and then of course an additional trim piece $$$.You must make sure that the design style trim you select has a volume control trim. Not all style trims have one.So that is 2 valves and 2 trims. $$$$$$. Spoke with Kohler several times on phone in setting this up, and no one mentioned this volume issue.

Good Quality Product For Showers
To give you an understanding of my predicament. I installed this in a multi-nozzle shower system that included two body sprays, a hand shower, and a standard shower head. I was originally told by a gentleman at Ferguson's that the standard rite-temp valve would provide plenty of water flow if I was only running two functions at a time. Well. I installed that valve along with all of my accessories, and finished the wall with tile. Much to my surprise, it was hardly adequate to drive the shower head alone. So I ended up having to go back behind the wall and replace the standard rite-temp valve with this one. The extra flow was a huge improvement, and was not that difficult to swap out. This particular model does seat slightly deeper than the standard rite-temp, so I had to support this with a 1x4 inch board, instead of the 2x4 that supported the other valve. The plastic ring is also slightly wider and required trimming the tile by about an 1/8 of an inch. This valve seems to be designed for shower systems. Another reviewer made a point about using with a tub/shower system. You must mount the valve upside down and does require the twin ell adapter. If you do your research and follow the instructions, you will find that this does not change a thing with regards to how the valve performs. In my opinion, 1 star was a very harsh review.Bottom line. So far, I love this valve. It saved my behind.

Kohler is supposed to be a quality product name.
These valves leak incessantly.

Excellent quality valve
Like all Kohler products superior quality. Solid brass housing and components. This valve is the right choice if you are supplying more than one fixture. It loses a star for two reasons. First because it is ridiculously expensive. Second because I cannot adjust it to supply really hot water. Safety is nice, but some of us like our showers steaming hot.

Missing Parts
The valve arrived in good condition, but my contractor noticed that one of the two mounting screws was too short and a stem adaptor, needed to install the trim, was missing. It was clear someone raided the box and left me to deal with the missing parts.
