Excellent history of the gulf coast. I came across this by accident. Very cool info to share with friends

Very academic style history book. The info is no doubt well researched. Delivery is very starched. BUT, I have not found another book cover this subject.

I finished reading Rob Sawyers latest book on waterfowl hunting, Texas Market Hunting, while sitting with my wife in the nursing home. This book may not be for everyone but if you have an interest in waterfowl, hunting or Texas history, I would recommend it. It tells the complete story of market hunting in Texas and is a very good read. This part of Texas history needed to be told and Rob did a great job of telling the facts in an interesting way without a lot of moralizing about the situation. I loved the book because my Dad and his kin were heavily involved in waterfowl hunting, including some that supplemented their meager income by selling ducks and geese.The book ends with this profound thought "Quiet too, is the Texas skyline, once animated with wildfowl over the coast, inland rivers, lakes and prairies. The great skeins of birds are gone, probably for good, and it has been too many years to blame that on the market hunters."Thank you Rob for this great look into a much ignored part of Texas history.James Smock
