In this greatly expanded second edition, Beebe and Pherson have added five new and compelling case studies and fifteen new exercises that challenge students to engage in thorough and systematic thought. The result is a well-rounded and absorbing group of seventeen cases on events in foreign intelligence, counterintelligence, terrorism, homeland security, law enforcement, and decision-making support. In addition to their value as discussion cases, the case studies provide an experiential learning environment students can use to employ 27 different structured analytic techniques. Each turnkey case delivers a captivating narrative, discussion questions, recommended readings, and a series of engaging analytic exercises. The detailed Instructor Materials--available as a free PDF download to all readers from the publisher webpage--include notional solutions, key takeaways, and multimedia ancillaries that make teaching and learning effective, efficient, and rewarding.

What a great read
This is an indispensable companion for any serious analyst. While many books explain what structured analytic techniques are, Beebe and Pherson show you exactly how to apply them to complex, messy data. The case studiesโranging from national security to health crisesโare masterfully constructed. Using this book helped me see where my own biases were creeping in and provided a clear roadmap for more objective reporting. Itโs not just a textbook; itโs a professional development tool.

Worth It.
This book is the compliment to Structured Analytic Techniques for Intelligence Analysis by Pherson and Heuer. As with their book, this book is exceptional in every sense of the word. The only aspect missing, and presumably so as to not bias or contaminate the reader's perspective, is that all of the case studies are not fully populated with actual information. Regardless, this is an extremely good book and definitely worth the money.

I highly recommend this book to individuals who are new to the ...
Purchased Kindle Version of this book this morning; after reading the first edition of the book, I wanted to see what the second edition had to offer. All I have to say, after reading the first 4 chapters, I had to set my kindle aside to place this review. Sarah you and your colleagues have once again put together an outstanding book on intelligence Analysis. Prior to reading the second edition, I completed reading Intelligence Analysis A Target Centric Approach by Robert M, Clark, last night. I highly recommend this book to individuals who are new to the field; or anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of Intelligence analysis. "Let me get back to the Wen Ho LEE Chapter." Thank you for putting together this book, once I complete the book, I will add some additional comments. Overall thus far, I am very happy with the content.

Not as advertised but still good.
While yes, the Kindle version of this book is indeed the Instructor Materials, I have found them quite useful as a synopsis of the material I imagine would be in the textbook.I would be very interested in getting my hands on a Kindle version of the actual textbook however, as this is what I technically paid for...
