Elements of Ecology, 8e

wow!! just wow. after trying 4 different books for bio-geography and 4 more for environment and ecology, i can say that biogeography books were good at being descriptive but no fundamentals hence they just ended up being irrelevant case studies, irrelevant because u just learn about their patterns rather than about energy requirements and life style according to their specialization etc hence cant use that info for other organisms effectively. other ecology books are irrelevant as well, too much botany/zoology as per an earth science student's requirement/understanding , molles was good but i didnt get it( understand). environmental books by Indian authors are just news compilations or diagrams of chemical cycles, crap. marsh was good but its more of environment pollution geography then environmental geography. ecology by chapman and reiss is good but introductory like a dictionary, very good but small.this has everything, probably way to much, but you get the fundamentals that u didnt know already, skip known portion. preferred this over odum cause way too many reviews on the amreecan site. one more thing, this an adapted version of the original 8th edition.

Very much informative book... Lots of mathematical points of view.

Best book for higher study of ecology. Best explanation to the concepts and covers almost all the chapters. One demerit of the book is that, it is not good for beginers.

The content is correct but except the cover the remaining pages a black n white diagrams are clear but little difficult to understand as it is in black and white.

Be careful where and whome youre buying it from, some of the books (mostly used and international format) are black and white so very difficult to view pictures and read tables and graphs that are color coded.

I really enjoyed this textbook. The chapters are short and sweet with plenty of background information for people that do not know much about Ecology. The picture quality and quantity is really helpful in understanding also. The front cover is neat which is a plus and it is a paperback not a hardback text so I can take it around wherever I go. Would recommend for introduction ecology course or just to learn about Ecology in general!
