‘I always thought I would get into painting, but I got waylaid by rock ’n’ roll. Finally, I thought, “Now’s the time.” As soon as I was in a situation where I could be alone and paint without any interruptions, I just couldn’t stop.’ – Chrissie Hynde ‘These paintings wake me up, show me life, make me want to get up and do something.’ – Brian Eno ‘The fact that Chrissie is a great musician underpins her painting in a variety of ways... She learns by doing and in the process her work becomes more distinctive and compelling, an expression of the life force within made visible.’ – Tim Marlow, Royal Academy of Arts In November 2015, Chrissie Hynde, the singer, songwriter and leader of The Pretenders, produced an oil painting of a ceramic vase. Fulfilling an intention that she would, one day, dedicate herself to painting, it would prove to be the starting point for Hynde’s first body of work, nearly 200 canvases in all. These paintings are shared for the first time in Adding The Blue . With Forewords by visionary musician and artist, Brian Eno, and The Royal Academy’s artistic Director, Tim Marlow, Adding The Blue is captioned throughout with Chrissie Hynde’s thoughts and reflections. Beginning with still life studies and culminating in vibrant abstract compositions, Chrissie Hynde’s Adding The Blue is a beautiful volume of paintings that are, in Eno’s words, ‘full of life, love and discovery’. Review: Interesting and varied work - but well worth a look - What a talented lady - you can really see the enjoyment and love of painting Chrissie obviously has, varied subjects and styles but they all exude a "devil may care" streak as if saying "if you don't like them - don't look at them". Chrissie's commentary on each picture adds to their charm. There is a lot of work so plenty to look at, great 'ballsy' works - just sad I missed her exhibition. Great book though. Review: very nice book - a must for every fan

Chrissie has created a beautiful book with wonderful paintings! Well worth the wait!
I came home and Adding The Blue was waiting for me outside my door tonight. The presentation is gorgeous. A large, beautiful, heavy hardcover book with gilt lettering. I wanted to post about how excited I was, and have read through several pages. I will be sitting down for the rest of the night to go through every page. I love her comments about how the paintings were created. The paintings themselves are incredible and each one touches my in some emotional way. Chrissie is an a INCREDIBLE ARTIST! I can see why this would have been her first love if Rock n Roll hadn’t called to her. Good for us she chose Rock of course! This is going to truly have pride of place on my shelf, and facing out! If you love Chrissie, get this book! You’re not a true fan if you don’t!

A Fantastic art book from a talented painter.
I am a big Chrissie Hynde fan. When I discovered that she has been painting I looked for this book and was not disappointed. Her art is truly phenomenal. It goes from being realistic to abstract and covers many subjects. I am so happy to own this book and wish I could have one of her paintings. She is a truly talented singer, painter, performer, and an all-around fantastic person. I enjoy all her work.
