A Charming Nostalgia: "The Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies" Children's Book
"The Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies" holds a special place in my heart, as it was one of my favorite Berenstain Bears books during my childhood. Fond memories of this delightful tale graced my bookshelf throughout my growing years, and its impact has stayed with me, even if the exact reasons might be a bit fuzzy. The vivid illustrations brought to life the relatable antics of Brother and Sister Bear, and I found myself marveling at their desire for various objects. The charm of the story lies in its ability to portray the universal concept of "getting the gimmies" with humor and silliness. The cubs' antics were not only entertaining but also a gentle reminder of the moral lesson embedded in the narrative. What makes this book truly special is its multigenerational aspect, helping to eliminate any sense of shaming. By acknowledging that all little cubs, including Papa many years ago, can succumb to the gimmies, it fosters a sense of understanding and empathy. The timeless message, conveyed through good humor, resonates across generations."The Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies" remains a charming and delightful story that not only captivates young readers with its whimsical illustrations but also imparts a timeless lesson about the pitfalls of excessive desire. A wonderful addition to any child's library, this book continues to stand the test of time. Highly recommended for its enduring appeal and valuable moral message.

Eternally good message
It was great when i was 7, still great at age 37, reading to my children. They love the book and “got” the message.

Classic for a reason.
I remember my parents reading this to me as a child. Now reading it to my own children (hoping to help their behavior), is touching. It’s become a favorite that my kids ask me to read them. Beautiful new book with stickers as an added bonus.

Classic Berenstain Bears Tale
Stan and Jan Berenstain truly are ingenious. In The Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies, Mama and Papa pull one of the most clever tricks they have ever pulled on their cubs. I think this story teaches a great lesson through comedy, humiliation, and consequences of being self-indulgent. There were several parts that my four-year-old son and I were laughing out loud so very hard. I laughed so hard that it brought a couple of tears to my eyes. I love the time I spend with my child. We spend much of our time reading, because he enjoys listening to story books so much. We have only had this selection in our Berenstain Bear Collection for a couple of weeks now and we have already read it a handful of times. This book accomplishes it's goal of teaching children another lesson on being morally right, while steering away from being morally wrong. I wanted to mention that I have written a review on The Berenstain Bears Get the Screamies. I didn't speak all that highly of that particular Berenstain Bear title. I think that the goal of teaching the "Get the Screamies" life lesson was accomplished in this book. The "Gimmies" after all are what lead to the "Screamies." I mentioned in the review on Get the Screamies that it was my opinion that a book was just thrown together and sent to the printing press. The Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies teaches more than one lesson, while the Screamies lesson is still up-in-the-air to me. This book clarifies a specific reverse psychological idea that Mama and Papa implement in their tree house, down a sunny, dirt road, deep in Bear Country. I wish Get the Screamies would have been an addition to this book. It would have been a good idea to just grown on the same concepts written and hinted to in the Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies. I'm so glad that Get the Gimmies is one of my son's books from his collection of various titles, including the rather large collection of Berenstain Bear Books. Every family should read this very book. =)

Love This Book
Excellent story for young kids who think they should always get something from the store. I read this to my son frequently. Overall, a very good series for parents to read to their children.

Very good to learn
If you see your kids or other kids acting this way then it’s a good to read them this book. All of these books teach about manners but if you ask questions too while you read they will understand this more

Relatable with a suggested solution
This book is awesome. I bought it because I read and loved the books when I was younger, and I feel they have a whole series of very relatable experiences to talk about with kids. I bought this one specifically (and 5 more) about current issues we're having as a family. Mama and Papa Bear make the same mistake my partner and I keep making, but also, Mama Bear is wise and knows it's mostly a them (parents) problem that they can easily fix. In the end, there's even a solution to stop the gimmies so they don't even leave you hanging to figure it out for yourself. What a great book. Comes with stickers too. 5 stars.

Problematic ending but highly entertaining
One of my favourites as a child. I remember throwing a tantrum just like brother and sister bear do in the parking lot (kicking and screaming on the ground) when they want the rubber cat toy, just because I wanted to see how my parents would react. I was grounded from candy for a week so that turned me off the story a little. Now as a parent, I'm a fan once again.Side note though- mama and papa's solution at the end isn't one I would recommend. The cubs get a treat EVERY time they go to the store? Are you kidding me? Granted, maybe they rarely go shopping but papa wasn't carrying that many bags when they left the store in the beginning. Also brother and sister are a little TOO high and mighty at the end. Anyway. Classic Berenstain Bears.

Good fun story that teaches a good lesson
Good fun story that brings up the issue of kids always wanting treats / stuff e.g. at the supermarket!
