The OFFICIAL ROXANT PRO video camera stabilizer for GoPro, Smartphone, Canon, Nikon - or any camera up to 2.1 lbs. I’m a novice filmmaker and I’ve never written a product review before. I’m doing so now because I’m really impressed with the product and the company as a whole. They really care about customer satisfaction and producing a high-quality product. I started producing videos on a weekly basis on my YouTube channel in April 2018 (search metoowhatnow if you’re interested). QUALITY OF CONSTRUCTION AND FEEL: It’s excellent. Every detail of the stabilizer seems to have been put through good quality control. There’s nothing cheap that’s going to fall off and break. I love the look and feel of the Roxant Pro. It has a comfortable handle and when it’s balanced, it feels like a natural extension of my arm. I don’t find the weight to be a problem. But I’m not shooting for hours at a time, which could make a difference. But if I try to use my Canon 70d, which is my mistake because it’s over the recommended weight of 2.1 pounds, not only does it get a little heavy, but also it’s almost impossible to balance. And it shouldn’t. It’s not supposed to. BALANCING: Balancing the stabilizer involved a lot of pain and frustration. However, this would’ve been reduced if I took time to properly read the instructions. My advice. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!! Slow down and do NOT assume you can unwrap the product, snap-on your camera and start running around your house producing perfectly stable and fluid results like many videos show on YouTube. Maybe some people are lucky, but I tried to fast track it. Not a good idea. I highly recommend (as does Roxant) watching the Otis Original channel on YouTube. He wastes no time teaching you how to balance the product with pretty much every camera type the Roxant Pro is designed for. Listen to Otis when he says that it only takes a fraction of an adjustment to get to that perfect place of balance. It really is a highly sensitive and accurate product, so the balancing process is naturally going to be sensitive and require accuracy. I have 5 cameras (GoPro 3+, Canon 70D, Nikon D5300, Canon PowerShot SX610 HS and an iPhone6s) I’ve had success with the PowerShot, Nikon, and my iPhone. The GoPro and Canon, not so much. But again, they’re not within the weight limit the product was designed for. I’m still learning how to use it. Like most nubes, and especially when it comes to the world of camera stabilizers, I’m a little frustrated with the learning curve. But the more I understand the technicalities of the product, and it’s proper application, I’m ok with the process and I’m seeing drastic improvements. Did I mention? READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! CONCLUSION: I love product and highly recommend it. The price point is good. I think it stacks on top of every other product in the same category of mechanical stabilizers for the weight ranged it’s designed for. I’m using it regularly, which is a good sign. Stabilizers that don’t have motors are difficult to learn to use. It’s the nature of the beast. But I do think the Roxant is the best way to go for mechanical stabilizers. Just make sure you understand what it’s designed for, it’s capabilities, and limitations before you buy it. But this is just good common shopping sense anyway. It’s more of a challenge when things are technical and have specific applications, plus, having a wide range of similar products doesn’t make it any easier.

Let me tell you my thoughts on your awesome, science fiction looking handle. Out of the box, right away, I was awestruck at the build quality. I am a sculptor and an artist that fiddles around with machining and precision crafting. So seeing a carefully machined, aluminum bit of sexiness, right as I opened it, was a moment of reverent pause. Having carefully constructed a planetary sized ego, centered around me as the main character on my show, I am largely grateful that this beautifully milled, crimson scene-stealer will not be on film, competing with my looks. Because, and let me be honest, with my face that was obviously built for radio only, I don’t need the competition. Moving on to the quality of the construction. Zip, bam, pow! That’s the sound effects and speed at which I put it together. Quick as a cat, the mobile of sculptural perfection dangled from my hand and swayed, mesmerizing anyone who dared look upon it. Tilted this way and that, the gimbal would not be fooled, because like most inanimate objects, it was wiser and cagier than myself. As I mounted my GoPro to it, I ignored the angelic choir sounds that emanated from the joining. Carefully, oh so carefully, I tweaked and poked and prodded and pleaded and finally, I was able to balance it. Like the Sistine Chapel, I too had achieved perfection In short; awesome first impression, both with design and quality of build. Super solid and comfortable gear to operate. Color is spectacular and is very eye-catching. I cannot say enough great things about it, save for one thing. My ability to read bold text. I was about to say that I really wish instead of the text instructions for tuning it, that you just direct people to the much easier video ones online. Then, I noticed the big bold text at the top of the sheet, almost as if Roxant knew what I was thinking….GET OUT OF MY HEAD ROXANT! I am very excited to run this stabilizer through its paces. I started up a podcast/film blog based around interesting ideas, stories or inventions (Think, Ripley’s Believe It or Not). To record on location, I bought a GoPro Hero4 and will be testing its limits as we explore haunted houses, follow along with a ship hull cleaner and see what running in the middle of a huge Zombie dash feels like. And you know who is going to be there with us, providing clear and smooth films? The good ol’ Roxant Stabilizer. My last thoughts go towards the customer service for Roxant! Such a personal outreach and they have that small business validity to them. If I wasn't such a diva, I might even think that their people are better than myself. But that is foolish of course, because I am such a diva and though Roxant it mighty, and their Stabilizer is awesome, and their customer service is.....who am I kidding, Roxant will take over the world and is probably making Skynet right now. So embrace the Roxant and your new robot overlords, for they are awesome. I recently started shooting some test footage for a documentary project with a Sony FDR-X3000 action camera, and wanted a gimbal/stabilizer for some hand-held shots. After researching various options, I found the ROXANT Pro on Amazon, read a bunch of reviews, watched the videos, and decided to buy one, mainly based on the price, but also based on the design, reviews and YouTube videos. When I received it, it was well packaged, and I was impressed with the quality and design. After taking it to a family gathering for Easter to give it a try with the Sony, I found that while it was comfortable to hold, my camera was simply too light to be able to add enough weight/counter-weight to keep it steady. I zip-tied one of the weights to the bottom of the gimbal rack to try to add a little weight, but while I could keep it fairly stable for exaggerated hand movements, it would twist or fall slightly up or down from level when walking uphill. There simply wasn't enough weight. To add weight to the top of the gimbal, I decided to order additional 1/4" tripod screws, so I could attach my phone mount AND the camera, to give it enough weight to stabilize the problems I had at first. I received the additional screws last night and was able to verify that it does VERY well with both my phone (as a viewfinder) and my FDR-X3000. The additional tripod screw I ordered doesn't fit as well as the original (the threads are about 1/8" too long), but does fit one of my phone mounts. All in all, I'm excited about the ROXANT Pro and will be shooting some footage next week for another project and will have a better idea of how well it performs. I'll definitely need to get a case for it. While it's compact, the bolt that sticks out means it will tear through a bag/backpack eventually. They might also want to offer (maybe they do and I missed it) a Deluxe version with the same items, plus the second thumb screw for using a phone and action camera. But that's nit-picking. I'm otherwise very happy with the purchase! :)

I highly recommend this product. It is made well, with nothing "cheap" about it. I use this stabilizer therapeutically...sounds odd right...but I'm a stay at home caretaker for my husband with chronic leukemia. In the mornings, my Siberian husky and I walk in the woods on our property and I pour my soul into a small Enverio JVC camcorder. Before the stabilizer, I would set up a tripod and have to keep one eye on the dog as she explored while I captured my thoughts for the day. (a little distracting) I wanted a solution to be able to walk and record without creating a gut wrenching motion sickness production. High end stabilizers are not cost effective for my situation, nor are they practical. I wanted a "small" solution. So I've given this Roxant Pro a try. 1. Patience is an understatement when setting it up. The videos with Otis are helpful, but even as a college grad I felt "balance challenged" and it took about 2 hours for me to get it balanced...or at least really close to balanced. (mind you I don't feel this is the fault of the Roxant Pro, I'm sure I would struggle with any stabilizer) 2. If you plan on using your camera in other applications where you are taking it on and off the stabilizer frequently, for goodness sake, mark the stabilizer in some way to remember where you balanced everything so you don't have to go through the balancing act each time. 3. I'm not sure the stabilizer is really meant to be used facing yourself for selfie videos as I am using it because my arm sometimes gets in the way of the counterweight, but it's not a deal breaker. 4. I like that the stabilizer is not too cumbersome. My Enverio JVC camcorder is only roughly .7 of a pound. So it's nice and light and portable. I would put it in my coat pocket and be on my way. Of course you can't do that with any stabilizer attached, but the Roxant only adds roughly two pounds. It doesn't sound like much, but walking through the woods like the statue of liberty recording myself and the dog is a good shoulder workout. 5. I find Roxant to be a great company. Their customer service responds in a timely manner and has been very helpful. I was able to get additional reducer screws to use in the handle of the stabilizer to attach the stabilizer to my tripod. Thank you Cathee and Roxant! :-) Overall I feel as if this purchase was a bit "overkill" for my purposes and sometimes I just don't want to deal with the additional burden of re-balancing the camcorder just for my morning walk, BUT it's not out of the question. I never have to reset the lower arm, I just have to make sure I get the camcorder mounted where I marked on the stabilizer and I'm off and running...well hiking actually. When I do use the stabilizer, the recorded video is INCREDIBLY different than if I was just walking without it. I can happily record my thoughts and walk the trail with my dog without any worry of a nauseating production when I review the footage later. Give the Roxant a shot. You wont be disappointed.

I had high hopes for this product. i really need a good stabilizer as I am starting a short documentary for my website. I really need a stabilizer for my heavy smartphone/phablet (Galaxy note edge). As soon as I unpacked it I noticed how durable it is. strong and heavy metal. It took me while to balance this thing. I had to google it in order to understand the secret. Anyway, after I did balance it properly I took it for a spin. Unfortunately, it wasn't what I was looking for. This is not for smartphone, period. It might work a little better for heavier cameras like DSRL but still, is not worth it. when you go up and down it does a decent job, for left-right is a no-no. No mater how much you calibrate it it's a mechanical stabilizer not a motorized one. Speaking of motorized stabilizer, I returned the Roxant and went with Zhiyun Z1-Smooth-C Multi-function 3 Axis. It costed me almost 200 bucks but it is really an upgrade. Roxant is OK if you can't afford a stabilizer that cost more than $60 but it wasn't for me. As I said it might be better for DSRL camera, but if you can afford a DSRL camera you can afford a motorized stabilizer. Furthermore Roxant is heavier and not as appealing as a motorized stabilizers which are smaller and much practical. I am not advertising the Zhiyun stabilizer in anyway or form just stating what works for me. You can go with any other motorised stabilizer. The more expensive the better it gets, usually. On the other hand, motorized stabilizers are for responsible people who take care of them. they're very sensitive so if you want the stabilizer for a kid maybe you're off with this one as Roxant is very durable and hard to damage.

My Roxant Pro stabilizer came in the mail today. It showed up really fast. I chose free 5 day shipping and it showed up in only 2, so that was awesome. The build quality of the Roxant Pro feels extremely solid. The entire thing is made of metal. The only two pieces of plastic on the unit are two non-critical plastic tension screws that could be replaced with a 5-cent wingnut if they were to ever break or get lost. I've used other hand-held stabilizers in the past that had critical parts that would be impossible to replace. Kudos to Roxant for a user-friendly design. The black paint and brushed aluminum color of this model makes it look like a professional piece of gear. I actually plan on using it this week for a paid video video shoot I'm doing. I used the Roxant stabilizer to balance my Canon Rebel t2i DSLR for shooting video. I was able to get it balanced with both the 50mm 1.8 and the 18-55 kit lenses. As with all stabilizers, the initial setup took some extra time and effort. I eventually found the sweet spot for my counterweights and repositioned the handle to the front position. I used 3 extra washers I had lying around to add some weight. It took maybe 20 minutes of toying with it the first time. I can set it up in 20 seconds now. I'm extremely impressed with the shots I'm getting, especially for such an inexpensive piece of gear. The shots really do look like they glide. You would never be able to walk or run with a DSLR and get steady shots without a stabilizer. This is a really great piece of budget DIY film equipment. It's basically the first piece of gear you're going to need if you plan on producing videos for the web. I see so many people on Youtube who would vastly improve their videos if they would start using a stabilizer. The unit is so compact that I'm able to get low on the ground and do some really cool drop shots. You won't be able to do that with a larger stabilizer because a lot of the units extend 2-3 feet below the camera. The counterweight arm on the Roxant only extends about ten inches. This stabilizer is considerably lighter than my Opteka unit that kills my arm after using it for 5 minutes, not to mention the Roxant costs 1/3 the price and works equally as well. I did a lot of research and I don't think there is a better handheld stabilizer than the Roxant Pro at the $50 price point. I'm going snowboarding next month and I can't wait to attach my GoPro to this and shoot some footage.

I have had the Roxant stabilizer for a couple of weeks now and have watched every video I can find on how to balance your camera on the stabilizer and how to get a decent "drop time." I have tried repeatedly, following various instructions. I can get the camera "balanced" but drop time is terrible. I try to adjust the drop time and it throws off the balance. In one video, sponsored by Roaxant, we are told the camera and drop time can all be done in 5 minutes. I'm not sure that I believe any of the videos or the reviews that say balancing the camera and getting a good drop time is easy. Maybe you will be lucky. I haven't sent it back because I am ultimately an optimist & I will keep trying for a while. Otherwise, I will probably just eat the money I spent on this. At this point, I can't recommend it but will edit this post if I can ever get it to work as advertised. I came back to edit this review. I was contacted by Roxant. They are very concerned about negative reviews. They really tried to help me get this thing to work. They had me look at the Otis videos on youtube and even put me in touch with Otis. They really did try to help, so for that, I will go up one star. Even with all of their help and guidance, I have still not got the stabilizer to a point that it is useable. Roxant has offered to send me a refund which I have been hesitant to take as I am an eternal optimist and hope that I will be able to get it to work as I really need some stabilization in my videos. Otis says this takes about 5 minutes to set up. I have spent at LEAST five hours on it. Not giving up yet, lol!! Will edit post again IF and WHEN I can get it to work!!!

I am a professional videographer and have worked for NBC, Warner Brothers and CNN. Most of my experience is with full broadcast (ENG) cameras. When it was time to update my personal video gear, I settled on a new Canon DSLR as the video quality is on par with the full size video cameras, is about 30 times less expensive and it can shoot stills as well. The weight of a broadcast camera, lens, viewfinder, wireless Mic system and battery helps to stabilize the camera in addition to it being shoulder mounted so my entire body frame acts as a stabilizer as well. Obviously, the compact size of the DSLR, light weight and the fact that it is usually held in front and away from the body lends to significant camera shake. I purchased a few lenses with image stabilization and this helped some but not enough. I went online and found several stabilizers costing in excess of $200-500. Umm, no thanks. So I went to YouTube and looked for DIY stabilizers. The most popular and seemingly easiest to make is comprised of electrical conduit elbows and a few plumbing parts. I also had to destroy one of my son's fidget spinners to get a single wheel bearing for the gimble. Well, after having to purchase a special drill bit and all of the parts, I had spent about $60. Assembly was fairly straightforward but after about 2 hours of trying to balance the camera I gave up. I was very, very disappointed with the unit. I searched again online for the best rated stabilizers and the Roxant stabilizer was consistently rated at the top. At under $70 on Amazon it was a no brainer. Once it arrived I was stunned at the quality of the parts but also the simplicity of the design. I immediately went to their website and watched the set-up videos. Within 10 minutes I had the unit balanced and shooting some test videos in the living room. I am more than impressed with the ease of use, quick set up time and quality of the components. Even though my plans for use are personal I would not hesitate to use this on a professional shoot. I would think my showing up at a paid gig with a homemade plumbing parts stabilizer would not go over very well with the client. Overall I am super pleased with the Roxant stabilizer and can't wait to try it out with my cell phone and gopro. Great product! ***Update*** I just received the new and improved grip/handle and am very pleased. It has an asymmetrical design so it fits better in the hand rather than a straight cylinder shape. Also, the rubber grip feels more secure and makes me think this will last a lot longer than the foam padded original grip. However, the original grip worked well to begin with but the new grip is just another level higher in build quality.

I bought this after watching videos on how to set it to balance! Not so easy. I have had it for months and have had no luck get this gimbal to stabilize. I am hoping they will return the item. Well it seems it is past the window for returns.... Such a waste of money

I bought this unit for myself to use in Hawaii in October (my brother may take it to Vietnam with him in May). So I really wanted to get a stabilizer without paying the god-awful prices of an electronic one b/c I really regret not having one when I went to Japan in 2016. So I wanna use this in Hawaii to get some gorgeous 4k scenery shots with my camera. The unit feels great, but I guess I need to get accustomed to the grip on the handle and the way the gimbals turns. Other than that, it feels really well built and comfortable to hold. I'm using a Lumix LX100 on it, so I'm trying to figure out if I can balance with just the lightest weight or if I need to get an extra washer for a little more weight (doing this weekend). The design itself is nice, simple and feels/looks really well built. I kinda wish I had bought the black one now, but I mean it still does the same thing LOL I've tinkered with it to figure out the balance (even watched those Otis Originals vids on YouTube). Overall, I'm really glad I made this purchase and I've already oiled the gimble up and even got some locktite to make changing the handle out much easier without having to remove that tiny piece all the time. I've also got it set up with a smallrig barrel nut connector like Otis' for an easier way to do slow pans and tilts. I'm really excited to put this to use in the next coming weeks to do some test shots!
