I love this tiny book
This is a perfect little book for toddlers to hold onto and carry around. The soft furry cover is a natural attractant and the story with illustrations are sweet.

Are you a good parent?
We’ll see. This is a classic because it’s charming. Prove to your child you get that.

hands down my favorite book for young children
margaret wise brown was a brilliant author of children's books -- i think that the Little Fur Family exceeds Goodnight Moon in that it offers a very young child a sense of adventure and exploration while at the same time reminding them that they are loved and safe. Such a magical and soothing book -- always my go to as a gift for new parents. you will enjoy reading it to them over and over.

Delightful
Wow, what a cute book...I stumbled across this book on here, we have the requisite "Goodnight Moon", but I was never really blown away by it. This book had such good reviews and the story sounded intriguing, so I thought we would give it a try. The furry cover is so cute. My daughter and I always touch the furry belly before reading it. We read it several times a day, usually! The illustrations are just lovely, I honestly don't think Margaret Wise Brown wouldn't be held in such high esteem if she didn't align herself with such talented illustrators. The story is just cute and curious, about a little "fur child" spending a day in the "wild wood". I just love how that sounds. He has a Mom and Dad that love him, he goes out by himself on an adventure, then returns home at sunset for a meal and to be tucked in and sang to by his furry parents. There is a little song at the end that is kind of hilarious, it doesn't really rhyme or make sense, I think that is what I love about it.This book doesn't have the patronizing tone so many young children's books possess -this book doesn't talk down to your child- it's more like, of course after your Mom gives you breakfast, you go out in the world and explore all day. LOL, if only. I just love that notion. Very unique.

A psychedelic freakout of a kids book
This has to got be one of the strangest, coolest, most out-there kids books ever.I mean, what exactly ARE the little fur family? The dad looks like some kind of furry owl, the mom might be some sort of feminine echidna, the boy looks like a bear, and the grandpa I'm pretty sure is an airedale....Pretty sure.Sometimes the book rhymes, sometimes it doesn't; sometimes the writing is odd and redundant--like living in a "wooden tree," sometimes it's lyrical and beautiful--like "the dark and sunny woods"; and always it's just bizarre....The fur family seems peaceful, but they all wear fur coats, evidently from some other animals that got skinned. ...The boy meets his grandfather and has the oddest and most non sequiter exchange about sneezing. ...The little fur boy captures a tiny little furry man, before kissing it and sending it on its way. What on earth is going on here? The pictures, by Garth Williams of "Little House on the Prairie" fame, are awesome, every one suitable for framing, and the text, by Margaret Wise Brown, author of "Good Night Moon," makes more sense than say, "The Color Kittens," but still seems somewhat drug-inspired. And the ending is terrific. This is one of my favorite kids books that I've ever gotten for my daughter, and she seems to like it as well. It's just so incomprehensibly bizarre that I have to love it. Have to.

To clear up some confusion about this book's size...
I love this book, and have so far bought three copies on Amazon--one for my two-year-old son (it's one of his favorites) and two as gifts. Though I have tried to get the same edition every time, I have ended up with three different editions in different sizes, some with fur and some without fur. I just want to clarify that the "Deluxe Edition [Box Set] [Hardcover]" is a larger book, about 6x8 inches, covered with brown fur, that comes in a box. The "Fur Edition [Hardcover]" is a very small book, about 3x4 inches, covered with light gray fur, that also comes in a box. The regular hardcover (& I believe paperback) editions that do not say "fur edition" are also 6x8 and have no fur on the cover; also no box. A lot of people have complained that this book is too small...please note that these people have the "Fur Edition [Hardcover]" and not the "Deluxe Edition." But since it seems like the individual sellers are as confused as the buyers are, you might be wise to buy from Amazon directly, and double check the product information under size to make sure you're getting the edition you want.

The Best Children's Book I've Read to My 4-Year-Old Twins So Far
I read a lot of books to my 4-year-old twins. Most of the books are okay to begin with but tire me quickly. The Little Fur Family, considered a classic, is easily my favorite. More than any book, it captures the magic of childhood. The illustrations are perfect. I'm 52 and there's a good chance I came across this as a kid, but honestly I don't have a specific memory of this little fur family child who wanders into the forest and finds enchantment before coming home. No plot in this book, but its depiction of the sacredness of life without being sanctimonious has a glowing effect on me, long after I read it to my girls. Highly recommended.

A classic but too tiny to enjoy
I got this for my granddaughter. For any age child this book is too tiny to enjoy. Beautiful pictures by Garth Williams are approximately 1 1/2 inches by 2 inches, too small. The artist has amazing details in his work, but you are not able to see them in this book. Pictures are small and blurry. Reading the book is difficult unless you have memorized it, as the print is so small. Fur cover is weird and likely to get dirty when a child is handling it over time. Sad that this version of the book is basically unusable as a good book should be.

Toddler loves this book and the pictures
My toddler loves the picture in this book. Although he is a little impatient on the story line and wants to see the next page and picture often before it is finished. He wants this book read every night to him as all.
