Pretty fan but difficult installation and instant wobble
We bought an older house and I have been replacing all of the old wobbly, noisy ceiling fans in every room. We had this same fan in our prior house and it was very nice looking, but at high speed it had a wobble. It was a custom house, and we picked it during fixture selection, and the builder installed it. My wife wanted the same look in our present home so we bought another Minka-Aire fan. This time I installed it. )I have hung many ceiling fans over the years, so I know what I'm doing....) This fan was a lengthy, troublesome installation. First, the ceiling cowl is supposed to slip over two shouldered screws in the hanging bracket. But only one of the holes in the cowl is key-slotted, and while trying to line up the second screw with the tiny 6-32 hole, I dropped it and it fell into a hole in the fan body. I had to take the entire thing down just to retrieve the screw. Next mounting the blades to the fan body is so unorthodox. The blade bracket is inserted into a square hole on the side of the fan, and the hub must be rotated until the screw holes are visible from below. Ever tried balancing a phillips head screw on a screwdriver and inserting it into an 8-32 hole in a dark recess? Who designs such nonsense? I finally got the controller mounted into the wall and turned everything on. Lights? Upper set YES, lower set YES! Fan on Low - YES, fan on medium - YES, fan on High - oh oh, it wobbles. In my experience, it take a long time to balance a fan, so I'm putting that off until I'm in a better mood. I have hung many less expensive fans, mostly Hunter brand, and never had an unbalanced fan like this one. For the hundreds of dollars this fan cost, you'd expect a premium product that performs flawlessly. This one does not. Last Minka-Aire fan I'll ever buy. It's 100% Hunter from now on. At least it look nice...

fan making rattling noises
Purchased this last Fall. Didn't use the fan much over the Winter, but now the fan makes rattling noises. I hope the motor isn't going out. I recently purchased another Minka and had to send it back for replacement. These are expensive and beautiful ceiling fans - they shouldn't be malfunctioning and making rattling noises.

We did go with the 6" down rod and all is good and we are very happy with the look and ...
Fan is everything we were looking for. Installation was a challenge as we wanted to go with the 3" down rod and found it virtually impossible to make it work. Why can they not make the housing unit that holds all the wiring just a little bigger to support stuffing all excess wiring back in place. We did go with the 6" down rod and all is good and we are very happy with the look and operation of the fan.
