Learned a great deal about my problems & about reasons for selected play strategies.
Speaking as a 50 yr old who suffered greatly from dispraxia In the 60s, this book is too wonderful for words. I did 3 afternoons a week at IIT University for coordination practice as a six year old, but never new the name for my disorders beyond hyperactive and astigmatism. This book was written in the UK, but games here will be useful for everyone with children struggling to fit in,whether or not there is also DCD or a neurological or orthopaedic condition affedting the child.Reading through the recommended approaches gave words to so many of the special coping strategies I used or needed as a child.Buy this book if you seem to see these factors in your child:Motor Coordination is greatly reduced, although the intelligence of the child is normal for the age.The difficulties the child experiences with spacial awareness, motor coordination or planning interfere with the child's daily life.Deficits in attention, motor control and perception (=DAMP).The difficulties with coordination or balance are not due to any other medical condition. These were my markers, for which the book gives good strategies on training to improve. If you see struggles on these issues, this book may help.> balancing issues and lack of awareness of nearby objects>Poor, clumsy or bumpy physical movements>Poor fine muscle motor control>variable touch sensitivity, or dislikes of certain textures>Sensitivity to, or extreme distraction from, interruptions or higher freq sounds> variations seen in walking activities.>Difficulty using both hands together.>Low Self-Perceptions of Adequacy in, and Predilection for Physical Activity (per CSAPPA test)>unusual difficulty sitting up or biking>Lack of time awareness>Limits to working memory space; can't remember 4+ items as well as peers.> has to stop activity completely to be able to listen> Fidgeting more frequently that peers.

Great. Buy it! Loved reading about all those issues that haunted my early childhood, and tools for compensating and retraining.

Excellent resource for people beginning to understand Dyspraxia
Brilliant book with so many great ideas that really help open the mind to the world of children living with Dyspraxia. As a parent, it gave me some great insight into what my child goes through on a daily basis and as a teacher, it really opened my eyes to minor adjustments to daily activities and routines that can be made to accommodate children with social and motor concerns.
