I once had a ceramic tea kettle that was impossible to pour water out of without spilling it. This is a sugar bowl, the top of which is impossible to remove which, in turn, makes it useless. I tried to hold on to the smooth conical "handle" and my fingers kept sliding off. I imagined using it with guests at a dinner party and observing them trying to use sugar for their coffee or tea. It's an excellent sugar bowl for people trying to diet. It makes using sugar impossible unless you invert the bowl.

I was perplexed after purchasing and seeing the other review, I think the other customer received a defective item as mine has no issues with the lid at all. I believe that does happen with china that is mass produced (hence the low cost), and thankfully Amazon has a great return policy.I actually use mine for bath salt-scrub in the bathroom and often have soapy hands, no problems opening and it's very classy looking vs the plastic jar that previously held the scrub.

Well made, feels high quality. Check the size before ordering. Purchased as a sugar bowl and it works well, but was a little smaller than expected.
