Spice and Wolf, Vol. 12 (light novel)

This was a Christmas gift for my son. He is a huge anime fan and loved this series and decided he wanted to collect and read all the light novels of spice and wolf. So far the ones he has read so far he has really enjoyed. Great books at great prices for the anime and manga lover in your life.

This book actually got a bit better at labeling the characters that were speaking. It still suffers from the problem of not always knowing who's talking, but not as much as the others in the series. The story is well written and interesting. You can tell that the story is gearing up for the final arc while simultaneously winding down for the end. It's tying up loose ends while setting up for the final scene which needs to be solved. Even if some characters were brought in simply to progress the story, they were given enough backstory to care about them and we're done in a way to make sense even if they were a simple throw away, plot device character. Lastly, the original character's personalities are developing quite nicely. Each one is growing noticably. Even if, in Holo's case, it's much more slowly. Overall I enjoyed the story quite thoroughly.

Great addition to the series! Not as long as the other volumes, but it matters very little for this story. It picks up right where volume 10 left off. The story has great pacing and the dialogue between the companions is exceptional as always. There truly wasn't a moment that I wasn't enamored by the dialogue between Holo and Lawrence. And which I'm happy to say the book was absolutely flooded with their banter to the point where I think that a permanent grin has made its home on my face. I'm going to have to re-read a few more times to be sure I didn't miss out on any clues or hidden meanings, because the author sure seems to like to do that kind of thing. Like the rest of the series, an absolute must read.

Again, another thread that keeps the reader engaged in the story. This one was a little more difficult to follow. However, sitting on my porch with a cigar in hand and a glass of Sochi in hand, it provided a continuing sweet adventure to escape into.

I just simply love the Spice and Wolf series so I'm always looking forward to the release of every new volume. So far, each one has been as good as I've hoped so you don't have to worry about that.

Bought this for a friend and he loves it.

Bought from Amazon vendor since it was cheaper, instead of Book Depository like usual.Most of the book pages were cold to the touch and delicate from the slight damp that had leached into them. All pages were warped into waves. The corners especially and sections of the sides of the cover were fragile enough that wear had already caused them to just rub raw from abrasion, partially peeling the artwork away.These books, though I bought them full price to be new with an understandably expected out of the box factory condition, they were clearly not even in new condition, nor should they have been advertised as so considering the number of them that arrived with some variation of a defect from just lack of appropriate storage.The product is predominaently intact is all I can say and some of them are completely fine, but there is still a clear disrespect for the customer and passing us off as idiots with exaggerated conditions of the items. They will do their job, but if you care for your items and take very good care of them like I do and want them in the condition expected, just don't buy a physical copy directly from the Amazon vendor. It costs money, which they don't seem to appriciate you spending and are actively leaving your items in a neglectful space that is damaging them. It's pathetic and they make you feel pathetic.I'm just hoping that stacking weight on top of the books will at least smooth out the pages over time.

Once again the author has pulled in some different ideas here. It seemed a little more focused on the relationship with the church this time rather than economics, and I felt that there was a little too much character development for two throwaway characters. But if you got this far in the series, you know it's more about a clever situation and some interesting dialogue than action. This is not the best in the series, but it doesn't drop the ball too far.

If you enjoyed the anime but were left wanting more from the non-conclusive ending that it had then I can't recommend the Spice&Wolf light novels enough. Continue the adventures of Holo and Laurence and enjoy the journey!
