Spice and Wolf, Vol. 6

No profit opportunity in this one
Rating system:1 star = did not like2 star = it was okay3 star = liked it4 star = really liked it5 star = it was amazingLawrence and Holo try to prolong their travels together by taking a detour to chase their double crossing business partner. On their way to the town of Kerube, they meet a boy named Col. This character is particularly important because I suspect he is the same Col as the one in Wolf & Parchment, the spin-off sequel series. We see Holo's more compassionate and motherly side as she interacts with Col, much to Lawrence's surprise. This volume seems primarily plot building, because Lawrence and Holo discuss some serious subjects surrounding the area around Yoitsu, and some old documents pertaining to a trading company located in the city Kerube.

A radical change in status quo for our travelers
Spice and Wolf volume 6; I was eager to start this one because it is the first volume to go beyond the anime. The anime was so interesting that I wanted to continue Lawrence and Holo's story. With their voice actors continuing to speak in my head, it was a lot a fun. There's a radical change in status quo here. First of all, there is the introduction of Cole, a little boy who joins the main cast. He kinda-sorta becomes Lawrence's merchant apprentice but wants to study church law instead in order to gain the ability to protect his pagan village. He's an interesting addition to the duo's dynamics (I had to come up with my own mental voice for him). Because of Cole's age, the main cast is basically a family unit now. Lawrence and Holo are more or less an official couple at this point. Lawrence's feelings are out in the open but Holo's got this Mayfly December Romance fear. The economics typical of the series take a backseat as the volume delves more into the leading couple's relationship. Prime among them is the fact that their journey will be ending soon. It's intriguing to see continuous development that is also a in-universe delaying tactic. This is not to say that there are no economics. On the contrary, it continues. For instance, Cole's backstory leads into a discussion about the education system in this time period. There's no publicly funded school system so education is significantly different. Those who can afford to hire private tutors. Those who can't pool their money together and hire a wandering scholar. As far plot, this book picks up directly from the fallout of the last book's climax. I.E. they are pursuing someone from the previous book. Holo sounds like she really wants to sink her teeth into "the vixen". This is the second change to status quo. The third change is how the book starts. Usually, there is a prologue about the pair traveling in their cart to the next town. Not n this case. Leaving Lenos is the prologue. There's no more cart at all. They're sailing down a river now. Isuna Hasekura has written another solid entry for this series. Trickster Eric Novels gives "Spice and Wolf volume 6" an A+

Pure distilled awesome
I was introduced to Lawrence and Holo via the anime and my wife got me the first five books for Christmas. It took me a while to get to them, but once I did, I blew through them in just a few weeks. That may sound like a long time, but for the first time in years, I found myself SAVORING a book. i wasn't just skimming it, I was caressing every word. It was an exhilarating experience, and gladly it continued with Vol 6. Some may not appreciate the slower pace of Vol 6. This is definitely a bridge volume, setting us up for what I sincerely hope is the long haul of many stories to come. Lots of character building in this tome, and as far as I'm concerned that's a great thing. Hasekura-sensei is young, only 31 years old, and I hope he continues to share the story of these two travelers for a very long time. I applaud Yen Press for carrying this title and I make a point of buying all my products new from them in appreciation. Keep up the great work!

Great Read
I just finished the show a few days before buying this book. It picks up right where the show left off without skipping a beat. Holo keeps you ever guessing even when you know her intentions. The only thing I didn't care for about the book was that at times it was a little difficult to tell who was talking without literally counting back and forth to see who should be speaking. But overall, this series is quickly tied for second place in my favorite series of all time. And I haven't even finished yet! Great find.

Excellent addition to the series
This is uncharted territory for fans of the series who had previously seen the past two season of the anime. It picks up right where the last book and last episode left off. The story this time is much smaller in scope and albeit a little slower paced. Nonetheless it still captivated me and taught me more about economics. The author also introduces a new character in Col, a young boy who becomes somewhat of Lawrence's apprentice. With his introduction, it freshen ups the interactions between our main duo and we see different sides of both of them as the deal with Col. The ending was also unexpected for me bu still a pleasant surprise. This is a great addition to the series and I can't wait to see what's in store for them next time!

More Holo! :)
I love spice and wolf! the anime, these novels and the characters and story. Holo is one of my favorite characters of all time. I love how she can be fiesty at times and is smart and of course a beautiful wolf goddess of the the wheat. I have books 1-6 and they are great and can't wait for the other 11 books to be released to have the complete set. this book is worth the read wheather you have seen the anime or not. I haven't read the mangas yet but I plan to start on them soon. I recommend this series for anyone, young teen or adult. it's a good story worth the time to read. njoy Holo and her adventures with Lawrence. ;)

Great book, longer than 40 pages.
There's less economics, and more sulking. Not much really happened, but it's a cute little book that fleshes out the two stubborn lovers current feeling towards each other out. Also, kindle have definitely underreported how many pages is in this book. Apparently it's about 230 pages long in the physical copy.

If you enjoyed the anime but were left wanting more from the non-conclusive ending that it had then I can't recommend the Spice&Wolf light novels enough. Continue the adventures of Holo and Laurence and enjoy the journey!
