Interesting facts, good book for beginners

Wanted to enlarge my knowledge of antique patterns.

I really enjoyed this book! History of Penny rugs. And some very nice rug patterns!

This book is lovely. The pictures are inspirational and the author admits that she had made her first one with felt squares. It is funny because the first book I had purchased had one view and no instructions and while waiting for it to come in, I had gone out and purchased felt squares to use for practice. Needless to say, I still had them when this book came in and I was immediately able to start a first project. It has many projects from the development of the craft and exactly what I was looking for. As I work on my skills on felt squares and small projects I will look for wool that can be used to make a larger project for my dining room table. This book is inspiring!

This is the best book I've read on penny rugs. You know how you buy craft books sometimes and you only find maybe one project that you actually want to do? That's definitely not the case with this book. I'm already well into making the large rug on the right-hand side of the cover and there are other projects in the book that I'll do as well. There isn't one wasted page in this book!! I feel like I received every penny's worth when I purchased this book. It really does show that craft books can be inspiring and affordable at the same time. I wish I had this kind of success with every craft book I ordered. The instructions are simply put and easy to follow. Many thanks to the author for writing this!!

I browsed through the book, but have not had a chance to start any projects yet. There is a lot of info and sample patterns which will be very helpful when I have the opportunity to make a penny rug.

This is an excellent book about penny rugs. It begins by giving a historical context for these lovely wool applique "rugs" and contains great photographs of finished rugs. The next part is an easy to follow tutorial on making penny rugs from start to finish. The photos again are outstanding. The book provides templates for pennies and patterns for several designs. I highly recommend Penny Rugs: Sewing Wool Applique to any one interested in beginning this craft.

One of the best purchases in books to date! Searched everywhere for a specific runner pattern that I had given as a gift 14 years ago...to no avail. The pattern along with many others are included here. If your new to the craft clear instruction along with nice pics, and historical info make this a real gem and must have book!

Having remembered my Aunt making penny rugs I bought this for some ideas and really like it. There are small projects to make - such as table mats, coasters, etc and larger ones, runners, rugs etc. I've recently bought a Sizzix die cutting machine which cut out lots of circles with ease. If you don't mind cutting them by hand you will be able to make something attractive, useful and with a modern or vintage look depending on your choice of fabric. It's very relaxing an therapeutic stitching the circles down.

This is quite a nice book if you are looking for very traditional mats. For me it was a bit disappointing as I was hoping for something new.But - it does give the basics of how to make penny rugs so if that's what you are looking for it will probably be a good buy for you.

Wanted to learn a new craft, this is a good book, clear instructions, well written, lots of photo's. Inspired me to make a make up bag, see photo. I would recommend buying this book

She has the basic facts and hints, but it is odd that the author actually states she doesn't much LIKE sewing the penny stacks and all her design just have the pennies around the edge or sides. Some interesting examples.
