Extra Extraordinary Chickens

So, this purchase sort of started out as a joke but soon became the go to book(s) (I bought both books) at parties and family gatherings.My brother and his wife bought 3 rhoade island reds and couldn't stop talking about them. They are NOT farmers, but more the yuppie type. The more they talked, the more i laughed at how silly it all seemed. UNTIL i saw the chickens and picked up my first warm egg. Soon after i was looking at chicken books thinking of having my own little coop. Fortunately i woke up from that dream but instead found these GORGEOUS books to give them. None of us knew how beautiful and varied chickens can be. We have poured over these photos time and time again admiring them.Frankly i have no idea about the text as i haven't read it. We wanted the photos and we got more than we bargained for. Absolutely beautiful books even if you are a vegetarian, and maybe especially for vegetarians!

It is a very nice book, glossy and very well made. The pictures are both goofy and profesional. This is a perfect gift for people who love humor and laughing. I got this for my uncle who had chickens for a while and I just know he will get a kick out of this! It came super fast in the mail as well!

There are so many pictures in this book, I lost count. From the very first page of 109, I was engrossed in the clear, amazing photography. I don't think it will matter that some pictures are small or of the same object. These chickens are beautiful! Some pictures span 2 pages. From chapter titles such as Feet, Araucana, Crests, Frizzles, Combs, Patterned chickens, couples, Polish, Silkies and more I discovered chickens I've never seen before. As a chicken enthusiast, I loved this book - it's pure eye candy. As others have mentioned, there is a small amount of text. It's interesting enough. I didn't buy this book to read! I wanted to see a variety of chicken breeds, colors and sizes. You will! Has a brief preface, Acknowledgments, Breed Index. No resources. Everyone that comes into my house has picked this book up to look at the photos. They all say the same thing - "Wow! I had no idea chickens could be so pretty"!!

This is anything but ordinary .. The Extra - Extra is the key to this title ! My Mom LOVES chickens and this was a great gift for her . She is no SPRING CHICKEN herself but this book would be good for anyone from 8 to 80 who loves chickens as the photos are tops . You'll also learn the names of those beautiful creatures but don't look for any other text because it's not there . Definitely a good buy !

This book is full of photographs of chickens. Not your typical chicken pictures mind you. You will see various breeds of chickens (many you have never seen before that are very interesting to look at), and you will also get a brief chicken history in the back of the book. What I especially enjoyed was the fact that the author wrote a small paragraph on each breed (again in the back of the book) featured in the book. I enjoyed the pictures of the various types of jungle fowl (the chickens early ancestor), and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is not a must have, but it sure is an enjoyable one.

Knowing how difficult it is to keep chickies still, author did an amazing thing by taking pictures of them, in a studio setting, with proper background, lighting and all. I never knew how many sorts and kinds and breeds of chickens could there possibly be. Chickies are really extraordinary.

What can I say, I love my chickens and have about 22 different breeds. I love the variety of them and this book illustrates the diversity of this species with wonderful art quality pics. It is definitely a table top book.

Like its preceding volume, this is not an important book, but it is very enjoyable. It continues the introduction of the amazing (and, for me, hitherto unexpected) diversity among different types of chickens. It is a wonderful tribute to the variety and beauty that can be developed by either natural selection or selective breeding. Or, if you are creationist in your outlook, it is a wonderful example of the Creator's whimsy. The book is mostly photographs; there are some some brief descriptions of the types photographed, and a little general background text - but basically, it is a photography book.

Pretty disappointing - the book is pretty small and mostly filled with very ordinary chickens. The few extraordinary ones were generally the shots already used in the calendar, only in the book they are a lot smaller and less impressive.I haven't read it so it's possible that content might be worth something, but if you're mainly interested in the images skip this book and just grab the calendar.

This are great for chicken fans! The pictures are outstanding, and the text is quite informative.
