What's the difference between this and the classic oil?

I just received the premium oil, so my experience is limited to a few days use. I think the premium oil has a higher viscosity than the regular oil. I feel like I get the same results with less oil, and that means that my beard is less greasy throughout the day. Whereas I would typically use one full dropper of the regular oil per morning, I use only about six drops, or about 40% of the dropper of the premium oil each morning. The other big difference between the standard and premium oils are the scents. Whereas the regular oil is scented of licorice/anise, I think the premium oil smells like sawdust....seriously! Like I just did my beard in a lumbermill! It isn't too strong, and disperses in maybe fifteen minutes (or that's how long it takes for me to become nose-blind). My nose notes other scents behind the primary wood scent, but I haven't yet been able to pick them out.Aesthetically, the bottles are a bit different. The premium comes in a frosted clear bottle, while the original oil comes in a brown glass bottle. The premium oil is more orange than the original which is more of a standard oil brown/tan.

I second that it smells like pencil shavings. Not unpleasant but a little weird.

Is it ok to store this in a plastic container? I want to put some 6oz in a bottle so I can travel with it.

We try our best to avoid plastic in our containers but recognize its ability to be leak proof. When I travel I throw my bottle in a zip lock bag, I make sure the cap it tight, and I have never had it leak to even test the zip lock, but I do this to be safe. You can put it in a plastic container if you like, but I've had success traveling with the bottle in a baggie. Thanks and safe travels!

Does this expire? or any of the other products? wax? balm?

Most types of oils oxidize over time. Especially in products without preservatives, oil-based products can eventually turn rancid. Unless your product smells rancid, has dried out, separated, or clumped (the latter two being more common with beard butters than balms or oils), then it’s unlikely to be a practical problem.

As a rule of thumb, it’s probably still a good idea to toss old, opened products for bacteriological reasons, but the products themselves rarely go bad even with very intermittent use. Dirt or bacteria transferred from your hands to the dropper, and then into the oil, are definitely the primary risk of old products. If sealed and stored out of direct light, and handled with clean hands during use, the shelf life should be as long as the product smells good and spreads properly.

The manufacturer can probably give you a more direct answer about the theoretical shelf life based on specific ingredients and formulations. Still, unless you plan to leave a half-used bottle of beard oil to your unborn great-great-grandkids, shelf life is unlikely to ever be a significant real-world problem for most beard conditioning products.
