Words have internal structure in a similar way that sentences do.
All in all, this book is a good survey of the typological differences that are observable in the great variety of human languages around the world. The book also clearly states that a specific survey would be difficult but not impossible and that a survey of many language-specific differences is not the objective of the book. It does well with managing data, both inflectional and derivational, and also explores that, sometimes, it's difficult to tell the difference between the two processes. The chapter on theory is passable, and the chapter on stratal morphology is important for students of historical change.
