Great rhymes; adorable story
We LOVE Kevin Lewis's books, and this is our favorite. The rhymes are great, the illustrations are colorful, and this particular one has such an adorable "surprise" ending that it makes me smile every time. Our six month old stares at me with a fascinated look on his face when I'm reading this book because the rhythm of the rhymes is so captivating.Buy this book. And "My Truck Is Stuck". You will love them as much as your kids do.

My daughter's favorite
This is an excellent book! We bought it for our son, but soon after our daughter was born and now she just adores it. It is fun to read too. The illustrations are beautiful and repetitive so I can ask my girl where things like the rubber duckie and the buoy are on several pages and she points to them. We bought this before knowing about Chugga Chugga Choo Choo and absolutely love it!

Gender biased, but Racially diverse--cool illustrations
The tug boat captains are African American, but there are basically no women in this whole story. At the end, we find out the tugboat is a toy tugboat in a little boy's bath. His mom, whose hand we see first, has polished long pink nails and a big rock. Then, we see she is shapely and hot, wearing tight jeans and a pink tank top, lifts him out of the tub and puts him to bed.A for racial diversity; F for gender neutral message for little girls.Story itself is good. Neat illustrations, content tells us what tugboats do in a rhyming fashion, such as, " Giant tanker needs a nudge. Propeller spins...but will it budge? Tugga tugga tugboat, grab and guide and float, boat. Tanker turning, water churning."Etc.

One of our favorite's
All three of my boys absolutely loved this book as toddlers/preschoolers! We've purchased multiple copies throughout the years because we read it so much, we'd wear it out. We like all of Kevin Lewis' books, but this was by far our favorite. It's a cute story, I find it fun to read and my kids like listening to it and looking at the pictures.

This is my son's favorite book! We borrowed a copy from the library along with other books and this was the only one he wanted read to him all week. I had to find a copy! The board book appears to be out of print now, so check for used copies if that's the style you're looking for. Great book with a great rhyming flow that will have your child hooked on it!

good for teaching English as second language, buy used
My son's first language is Polish. At age 3, he is starting to learn English. This is a perfect book for reading in English for him. He already knows entire book by heart. For a while, we have been reading it every night before bed. At the beginning he was so excited about the tugboat and big tanker scheme that he started to draw tankers and tugboats. We bought a used book for ~5$ (including shipping) and received a book that looked completely new.

Doesn't flow as well as others in series but very cute story.
This book is part of the series that includes a jeep and train. (The train book is the best.) Tugga tugga tugboat has good rhyming as the other books do, but they are separated by pages in a more disjointed fashion that makes it hard to take in all the illustrations yet not lose the story during the pause.
